No claims experience needed. Full training, fully funded CII qualifications, free parking, and no evenings or weekends.
We're recruiting a Trainee Claims Handler for the home insurance claims team of an established, FCA-regulated general insurance business on the edge of Bolton. The team is growing after taking on a big new contract, so this is a real seat with real training behind it.
Most claims jobs ask for two years' experience. This one doesn't. It asks that you're good with people on the phone, organised enough to run your own workload, and keen to learn a proper trade with a qualification at the end of it.
Who this suits
If you work in a contact centre, a complaints team, a housing association, a lettings agency, a utility, a bank or a mortgage broker, you're closer to being a Trainee Claims Handler than you think. You already manage cases, work to rules someone checks, and talk to people who are having a bad day. That's most of the job. The insurance side is what they teach you.
Also worth a look if you're in retail or hospitality management and want your evenings and weekends back.
What you'll be doing
* Taking home insurance claims when they first come in: escape of water, storm, accidental damage, theft
* Checking what the policy covers and gathering what's needed to move each claim on
* Booking and managing the trades and suppliers who put things right for the customer
* Keeping customers updated clearly and honestly until the claim is settled
* Spotting anything that doesn't look right and referring it
What you'll need
* Customer service experience in some form: contact centre, complaints, admin, retail, hospitality
* Calm and clear on the phone, even when the customer isn't
* Organised, accurate, and comfortable picking up new systems
* GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above in English and Maths
* A full driving licence and your own transport
What you get
* £24,479 to start, with annual pay reviews and a clear route up the claims grades
* 35 hours, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. No evenings. No weekends. No rota.
* Fully funded CII qualifications, studied in work time
* Free on-site parking
* Holiday that grows with service, a holiday buy and sell scheme, and your birthday off
* Contributory pension, cycle to work scheme, casual dress
Being straight with you
The learning curve is real. Insurance has its own language and the first few months are hard work. It's on site five days a week until you've passed probation, and you'll need to drive, because public transport to the site won't get you there for nine.
What you get in return is a qualification someone else pays for and a career with somewhere to go.
Send your CV, whatever it looks like. We'll ring you for a proper chat about whether it's right for you, and we'll be honest either way
