How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Maintenance Engineer - Days

    * Base Salary: Up to £40,000 per annum, depending on experience

    * Days – Monday to Friday

    * No Regular Weekend Working

    SimWest Engineering Recruitment is working with an established manufacturing business in South Cumbria to recruit a Maintenance Engineer for its site engineering team.

    This is a hands-on maintenance position within a long-established manufacturing site that operates as part of a wider UK manufacturing group.

    The business has seen increased order levels and is continuing to strengthen its engineering capability, creating an opportunity for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join a small, close-knit team.

    THE ROLE

    You will work as part of the site engineering function, supporting the reliability and performance of production machinery and equipment.

    The role will involve a mixture of planned maintenance, breakdown support and engineering improvement work.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    * Carrying out planned and preventative maintenance

    * Responding to machinery breakdowns

    * Fault finding and repairing production equipment

    * Supporting machinery reliability and reducing downtime

    * Completing routine engineering inspections

    * Supporting site-based engineering projects

    * Assisting with machinery improvements and modifications

    * Working closely with production to resolve engineering issues

    * Helping maintain a safe and well-organised engineering environment

    Because this is a relatively small engineering team, you will have plenty of variety in the role and will be encouraged to take ownership of engineering problems rather than being restricted to one particular area of maintenance.

    ABOUT YOU

    We are looking for a practical Maintenance Engineer with experience working within a manufacturing or production environment.

    You will ideally have:

    * Previous maintenance experience within manufacturing

    * Experience carrying out planned and reactive maintenance

    * Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills

    * Experience working with production machinery

    * A practical, hands-on approach to maintenance

    * The ability to work independently as well as part of a small engineering team

    Candidates from food, FMCG, packaging, printing, converting or other high-volume manufacturing environments would be particularly relevant.

    THE COMPANY

    The company is an established manufacturing business with a long history in the South Cumbria area.

    The site manufactures high-volume products for a broad customer base and operates as part of a wider UK manufacturing group.

    Despite being part of a larger organisation, the site retains a close-knit working environment.

    The company has a supportive culture, with engineering and production working closely together to keep the operation running effectively.

    For someone looking for a stable engineering position where they can become an important part of a small maintenance team, this represents a very good opportunity.

    PACKAGE

    * Base Salary: Up to £40,000 per annum, depending on experience

    * Hours: Days – Monday to Friday

    * Weekends: No regular weekend working

    If you are an experienced Maintenance Engineer looking for a days-based position within a supportive manufacturing environment, we would be interested in hearing from you.
