How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Civil / Water Design Engineer - North West

    Location: Manchester / Warrington
    Salary: £40,000 - £55,000 DOE
    Type: Full-Time | Permanent
Working Pattern: Hybrid, with regular attendance at the Manchester and Warrington offices

    The Opportunity

A well-established engineering consultancy is seeking a Civil / Water Design Engineer to support a major UK water company through a long-term client secondment.
This is an opportunity to gain valuable client-side experience within the water industry, working on projects focused on surface water management, drainage, flood risk and sustainable drainage solutions.
Rather than focusing solely on design production, you'll review external consultants' proposals, provide technical recommendations and help shape projects from early feasibility through to detailed design.
You'll remain permanently employed by the consultancy, with a long-term career path in water and drainage engineering beyond the secondment.

    The Role

Supporting SuDS, rainwater management and nature-based solutions
Investigating surface water challenges and recommending engineering solutions
Reviewing and challenging external consultants' designs
Supporting projects from feasibility through to detailed design
Developing technical scopes and requirements for design partners
Presenting recommendations to clients and project stakeholders
Supporting project governance, reporting and risk management
Considering wider benefits, including flood reduction, biodiversity and water quality

    What We're Looking For

Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a relevant technical discipline
Experience in water, drainage, SuDS or flood risk
Understanding of surface water management and the wider water industry
Experience providing technical support, reviewing designs or delivering engineering projects
Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with clients and consultants
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
    Software experience:

MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage or Causeway Flow
    AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D
    GIS, particularly ArcMap, advantageous
Microsoft Office 365, including Excel, Word and SharePoint
    ProjectWise or CEMAR beneficial
Knowledge of NEC4 contracts, scope development, natural flood management or nature-based solutions would also be advantageous.

    Why Apply?

    £40,000 - £55,000 DOE
Direct client-side experience with a major UK water company
Influence engineering decisions from early feasibility onwards
Exposure to sustainable drainage, flood risk and environmental improvements
Develop technical, commercial and stakeholder management skills
Permanent consultancy employment with long-term career progression
Supportive team and ongoing professional development
If you're a Civil / Water Engineer looking to broaden your experience beyond traditional design and gain valuable client-side exposure, get in touch for a confidential conversation.
