Contract: Permanent, full-time
Vacancies: Two
Talent Media is recruiting two Specialist Machine Operators for an established precision engineering manufacturer in Lanark.
The company manufactures complex, close-tolerance components for the aerospace sector and other quality-critical industries.
These are hands-on positions requiring practical machine-setting and operating experience. We are interested in candidates with experience in either grinding or thread rolling—you do not need experience in both disciplines.
THE ROLES
Depending on your specialism, you will:
* Set up and operate specialist grinding or thread-rolling machinery.
* Complete machine changeovers and change wheels, tooling or dies.
* Work accurately from engineering drawings and manufacturing instructions.
* Produce first-off components and check that they meet the required specification.
* Manufacture components to close tolerances and specified surface finishes.
* Inspect your own work using micrometers, verniers, thread gauges and other measuring equipment.
* Make adjustments and resolve machining or process issues.
* Complete production and quality documentation.
* Support routine machine maintenance and maintain a safe, organised working area.
ABOUT YOU
You should have:
* Previous hands-on experience setting and operating grinding, thread-rolling or related precision manufacturing machinery.
* The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
* Experience manufacturing and inspecting close-tolerance components.
* Confidence using precision measuring equipment.
* A practical understanding of tooling, machine adjustments and quality requirements.
* A methodical approach and strong attention to detail.
Experience within aerospace, automotive, medical, defence, oil and gas or another regulated manufacturing environment would be advantageous.
Candidates from cylindrical grinding, centreless grinding, toolroom machining, cold-forming, or similar specialist settings are also encouraged to apply.
An engineering apprenticeship or recognised machining qualification would be beneficial, although relevant hands-on experience is equally important.
SHIFT PATTERN
The current working pattern rotates between a five-day day shift and a four-night night shift:
Day shift:
* Monday to Thursday: 7:30am–4:00pm
* Friday: 7:30am–12:40pm
Night shift:
* Monday to Thursday: 9:30pm–7:30am
This provides an early finish every Friday while working days and a four-night working week while on nights.
Shift premiums are paid in addition to the basic hourly rate and can be up to 30%, depending on the shift worked.
Contracts also include flexibility to work a back shift should this be reintroduced in the future. No back shift is currently operating.
Applicants must therefore be comfortable working the current rotating day and night shift pattern and understand that a back shift could form part of the rotation in the future.
