How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Secondary Science SEND Tutor - Hereford

    Location: Hereford, Herefordshire
    Subject: Science
    Phase: Secondary / SEND
    Working Arrangement: In-person

    Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced Secondary Science SEND Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one educational support to a young person in Hereford.

    The successful tutor will have strong Science subject knowledge and experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs. You will be confident adapting your teaching style, pace, resources and explanations to meet individual learning needs, while helping the learner build confidence and make positive academic progress.

    Experience supporting young people who have barriers to accessing mainstream education, including anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour, would be highly desirable.

    The ability to create a calm, structured and supportive learning environment will be essential.

    This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

    The role may involve:

    Providing personalised one-to-one Science tuition to a secondary-aged learner.
    Supporting the secondary Science curriculum and GCSE preparation where appropriate.
    Supporting Biology, Chemistry and Physics depending on the tutor's subject specialism.
    Identifying gaps in scientific knowledge and providing targeted support.
    Adapting lessons, resources, teaching methods and pace to meet individual needs.
    Breaking down complex scientific concepts into manageable and accessible steps.
    Supporting practical and theoretical aspects of Science where appropriate.
    Supporting a learner who may experience anxiety, school avoidance or disengagement.
    Supporting learners who may have barriers to accessing mainstream education.
    Creating a calm, structured and positive learning environment.
    Using the learner's interests and strengths to encourage engagement.
    Supporting GCSE revision, exam preparation and exam technique where appropriate.
    Developing confidence, independence, resilience and positive attitudes towards Science.
    Supporting learners who may display challenging or unpredictable behaviour where appropriate.
    Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback.
    Building a positive and trusting relationship with the young person.
    Working collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner's support.
    Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
    Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.

    Essential requirements:

    Strong Science subject knowledge at secondary level.
    Experience teaching or tutoring Science.
    Experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
    Experience providing one-to-one or personalised educational support.
    Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual SEND needs.
    Experience supporting learners who may have barriers to accessing mainstream education.
    Experience supporting challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.
    A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
    Ability to build trusting and respectful relationships with young people.
    Experience supporting learners who may be reluctant, anxious or disengaged from education.
    Strong communication and organisational skills.
    Ability to create a positive and structured learning environment.
    Reliable and consistent approach to work.
    Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
    Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
