How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Experienced and professional Markets Operative required to work with a leading and highly reputable organisation.

    My client requires Markets Operatives to join their team, supporting the day-to-day operation, maintenance and presentation of markets across Walsall Borough. This is a hands-on outdoor role involving physical work in all weather conditions.

    Location: Markets across Walsall

    Pay: £16.38 per hour (CIS or Umbrella)

    Hours: 18 hours per week guaranteed, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Approximately 6-7 hours per day, with early starts typically between 4:00am and 6:00am. Weekly rotas provided.

    Start Date: ASAP

    Duration: Temporary, 3 months with potential to extend

    Markets Operative

    Set up and dismantle market stalls.

    Move and position bins across market sites.

    Carry out litter picking and maintain clean and presentable market environments.

    Clean stalls, bins, compounds and communal areas.

    Support the upkeep and general maintenance of market infrastructure.

    Carry out basic weeding and general site maintenance.

    Spread grit and rock salt during icy weather conditions.

    Assist with the smooth operation of market activities.

    Engage professionally with market traders and members of the public.

    Report issues and provide updates to the Team Leader and Market Operational Manager.

    Work safely and effectively in all weather conditions.

    Use basic hand tools and equipment as required.

    Requirements

    Previous experience undertaking manual or physical work.

    Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and temperatures.

    Full and valid UK driving licence.

    Own vehicle required for travel between market sites.

    Business insurance for use of your own vehicle during work-related travel. (very important)

    Must be 18 years old or over.

    Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.

    Good communication and customer service skills.

    Confidence engaging with traders and members of the public.

    Professional and reliable approach to work.

    Flexible and willing to undertake early morning starts.

    Ability to use basic hand tools and equipment.
