How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Maintenance Electrician

    We are seeking an experienced and reliable Electrician to join our team, carrying out electrical installation, maintenance, inspection and repair work across Colchester, Wattisham, Wimbish and Woodbridge.
    The successful candidate will be comfortable working in occupied homes as well as commercial environments and will take pride in delivering safe, compliant and high-quality workmanship. You will be expected to work in accordance with the latest IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) and relevant client requirements.

    Key Duties

    Undertake electrical repairs, installation and maintenance across domestic and commercial properties.
    Complete planned and void property works, including rewiring, consumer unit changes, smoke and heat alarm installations, extractor fans, shower supplies and general electrical remedial work.
    Attend responsive maintenance jobs, identify electrical faults, carry out safe isolation and complete repairs efficiently wherever possible.
    Undertake electrical inspection and testing, including EICRs and associated remedial works.
    Ensure all electrical work is completed in accordance with current BS 7671 requirements and applicable legislation.
    Record completed works, test results, materials and working hours accurately using a PDA or mobile job-management system.
    Maintain professional communication with residents, customers, clients and colleagues throughout each job.
    Work closely with the Electrical Supervisor, reporting technical issues, material requirements and job progress as required.
    Complete suitable risk assessments and follow safe systems of work at all times.
    Comply with organisational policies covering health and safety, environmental responsibilities and equality.
    Take part in a shared out-of-hours emergency call-out rota.

    Essential Requirements

    Demonstrable experience working as a qualified Electrician, ideally within domestic maintenance, repairs or social housing.
    NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation, or an equivalent recognised City & Guilds qualification.
    Current 18th Edition / BS 7671 qualification.
    Practical experience of electrical installation, inspection, testing and fault finding.
    Ability to work independently and manage electrical tasks safely from diagnosis through to completion.
    Good knowledge of electrical health and safety requirements, including safe isolation procedures and permit-to-work arrangements.
    Confidence using electronic job-management systems, PDAs and mobile technology.
    Ability to communicate professionally with customers, residents, colleagues and management.

    Additional Electrical Experience

    Experience or competence in the following areas would be beneficial:
    Electric heating, including panel and storage heating systems.
    Electrical cooker installations and associated cooking circuits.
    Domestic electrical installations and remedial works.
    Inspection, testing and fault diagnosis.

    Security Requirements

    The role requires the successful applicant to hold, or be eligible to obtain, Security Check (SC) clearance and meet the required BPSS standards.
    Applicants must be willing to complete the necessary security vetting process and maintain the required level of clearance throughout their employment.

    Desirable Qualifications & Experience

    The following would be advantageous:
    Experience of planned maintenance, void properties or responsive repairs.
    Previous work within social housing, public-sector housing or MOD-related contracts.
    Knowledge or practical experience of PAS 2035 / PAS 2038, particularly in relation to retrofit and energy-efficiency programmes.
    2391, 2394 or 2395 Inspection & Testing qualification.
