How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    CNC Miller / Programmer / Setter Operator

    Location: Abingdon, Oxfordshire
    Salary: £20.00 - £23.00 per hour
    Hours: Full-time, 39 hours per week
    Job Type: Permanent

    We are currently recruiting for an experienced CNC Miller / Programmer / Setter Operator to join a well-established engineering business based in Abingdon.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled CNC professional with strong Heidenhain experience and a background in 3, 4 and 5-axis milling. The successful candidate will be responsible for programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines, producing high-quality components to tight tolerances.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines
    Working with 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC machines
    Programming directly at the machine using Heidenhain controls
    Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
    Setting tooling, workholding and machine parameters
    Manufacturing large components to tight tolerances
    Inspecting and measuring your own work to ensure right-first-time quality
    Completing quality documentation and reports
    Supporting and training other members of the team where required
    Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs
    Maintaining a safe, clean and organised working environmentRequirements:

    Previous experience programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines
    Strong experience with Heidenhain controls
    Experience with 5-axis milling
    Ideally 5+ years' experience within CNC machining
    Experience machining large components, up to approximately 2.5 metres
    Ability to work to tight tolerances
    Confident reading engineering drawings
    Good understanding of inspection and measurement equipment
    Experience with Doosan, Matsuura or Mazak machines would be advantageous
    Fanuc experience would be beneficial but is not essential
    Apprenticeship or relevant engineering background preferred
    Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
    Reliable, hardworking and able to work independentlyThe Company:
