How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Make a real difference to the lives of children and young people with hearing loss!

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant who is passionate about inclusion and helping children and young people reach their full potential?

Do you have experience supporting children with hearing loss and a good understanding of how to remove barriers to learning?

If so, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

We are looking for a Specialist Teaching Assistant – Hearing Impairment to join a specialist service supporting children and young people across a range of educational settings, including Early Years.

This is a genuinely rewarding role where you will play an important part in helping children with hearing loss access education, develop their confidence and independence, and achieve the outcomes and aspirations they deserve.

You will work closely with Qualified Teachers of the Deaf, schools, families and other professionals, providing tailored support to individual children across different settings.

    What makes this role special?

This isn't simply a traditional Teaching Assistant role.

You will become an important part of a specialist team, using your knowledge and experience to help children and young people overcome the specific barriers that hearing loss can create within an educational environment.

    You'll have the opportunity to:

Support children and young people to access the curriculum and fully participate in school life.

Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and their families.

Work alongside experienced Teachers of the Deaf and specialist professionals.

Support children across a variety of educational settings, including Early Years.

Develop your knowledge and expertise in supporting children with hearing loss.

Prepare accessible learning resources and personalised materials.

Help children develop their confidence, independence and communication skills.

Contribute to positive educational outcomes and improved future aspirations.

    What you'll be doing

As a Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will:

Provide targeted support to identified children and young people with hearing loss.

Help pupils overcome barriers to learning and promote inclusion.

Support pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis where required.

Adapt and prepare learning resources to ensure they are accessible.

Implement agreed personalised learning and support programmes.

Support pupils to access classroom activities and the wider curriculum.

Use your understanding of hearing loss to support effective learning and communication.

Work closely with Qualified Teachers of the Deaf and school staff.

Develop positive relationships with children, young people, families and professionals.

Contribute to monitoring progress, reports and reviews.

Maintain accurate records and manage an allocated caseload.

Use specialist ICT, technology and equipment to support learning.

Work across different schools and educational settings throughout the borough.

    About You

We're looking for someone who is passionate, patient, adaptable and committed to making a difference.

You'll ideally have experience working with children or young people with hearing loss within an educational setting and understand that every child has different communication needs, learning styles and strengths.

You don't need to know everything from day one. What's important is that you have the right experience, attitude and commitment to supporting children with hearing loss.

    Essential Requirements

    You will need:

    * Experience working with children and young people with hearing loss.

    * Experience working in an educational setting.

    * GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths, or equivalent.

    * NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent qualification/experience.

    * BSL Stage 1 or equivalent relevant experience.

    * Experience preparing or contributing to learning resources for children with hearing loss.

    * A full driving licence and access to a car, as you will be required to travel between educational settings across the borough.

    *

We'd particularly love to hear from you if you have:

    * Experience working within Early Years.

    * BSL Stage 2 or above.

    * Experience working alongside a Teacher of the Deaf.

    * Experience within a sensory impairment, SEND or specialist education service.

    * Knowledge of assistive listening technology or specialist equipment.

    * Experience supporting children to develop independence, communication and confidence.

    What's in it for you?

As well as the opportunity to make a genuine difference to children's lives, this role offers:

    *

Term-time working – ideal for those looking for a role aligned with the school year.

    *

32.5 hours per week, plus 5 additional days.

    *

The opportunity to work across a variety of educational settings.

    *

The chance to develop specialist expertise in supporting children with hearing loss.

    *

Work alongside experienced Teachers of the Deaf and specialist professionals.

    *

A varied and rewarding role where no two days are necessarily the same.

    *

Opportunities for relevant training and professional development.

    *

The opportunity to build meaningful relationships with children, families and schools.

    *

A role where you can see the direct impact of your work on children's confidence, inclusion and educational outcomes.
