An ambitious engineering business working across top-tier motorsport and high-performance sectors is bringing machining in-house for the first time. They are moving to a new site and need the right person to own that shift from day one.
This is a hands-on role and, to start with, most of your time will be on the machine: setting, programming and proving out parts yourself. What sets it apart is that you will also advise a small team of skilled design engineers on manufacture, material choice and machinability before a part reaches the machine. There is no existing workshop to slot into, so you set the standard.
It will suit someone who came up through CNC setting and programming and has moved, or wants to move, towards manufacturing engineering, production or planning. As the business grows, the role is expected to grow with it, with genuine scope to move into Production Planning and own machinery H&S and policies.
Your responsibilities as a Manufacturing Engineer:
Set, programme and operate a turn/mill CNC machine (Mazak Integrex or similar), working predominantly in steels
Programme using Mazak conversational programming or an equivalent control system
Select tooling, work holding and cutting parameters, and prove out new programs from scratch
Manufacture one-off and small-batch precision components to tight tolerances
Review designs and advise on the best approach to manufacture, materials and machinability
Carry out first-off and in-process quality inspection using standard metrology equipment
Take the lead on the new machine's introduction, workshop set-up and machinery H&S as the role develops
What you will bring as a Manufacturing Engineer:
At least 3 years' hands-on CNC setting and programming experience (not just operating), ideally on a mill/turn machine such as a Mazak Integrex
Still on the machines, or since moved into production, planning or manufacturing engineering - happy to set and run the machine yourself
Ownership and ambition - you want to be accountable for the finished part, and to grow beyond the machine into production and leadership
Confident interpreting engineering drawings and tolerances, and comfortable advising design engineers on manufacturability
Experience with Mazak conversational programming (or an equivalent control) is a strong advantage - CAM experience is also a plus
A practical, resourceful mindset - happy working things out independently
Gear machining experience (e.g. Pfauter or Lorenz) is a bonus
What you can expect as a Manufacturing Engineer:
Salary of £40,000 - £45,000, dependent on experience
Varied, technically interesting motorsport and high-performance work
Motorsport and high-performance engineering exposure
Genuine scope to grow into Production Planning and H&S ownership
Company pension
31 days holiday (including bank holidays)
Salary description
£40000.00 - £45000.00 per year
