How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    FLI Water is looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team in Kempston.

    This is an opportunity to take the commercial lead across a portfolio of projects, managing everything from tender handover through to final account. You’ll have real ownership of project performance, working closely with operational teams, subcontractors and clients to manage risk, control costs and identify opportunities.

    As part of the FLI Group, FLI Water delivers complete turnkey projects, mechanical engineering services and process technologies across the water and wastewater, sectors.

    The role

    Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you’ll provide commercial and contractual leadership throughout the project lifecycle.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    * Leading the commercial management of projects from tender handover to final account

    * Managing procurement and subcontractor accounts

    * Producing and maintaining accurate CVRs, cost forecasts and commercial reporting

    * Administering NEC3 and NEC4 contracts

    * Managing compensation events, change control and contractual notices

    * Identifying, managing and mitigating commercial risk

    * Recognising and maximising commercial opportunities

    * Leading commercial negotiations and agreeing final accounts

    * Building strong relationships with clients, project teams and supply-chain partners

    * Supporting and mentoring junior members of the Quantity Surveying team

    * Driving continuous improvement in commercial processes and project performance

    What we’re looking for

    You’ll be an experienced Quantity Surveyor who is comfortable taking responsibility for the commercial performance of projects and confidently dealing with clients and contractors.

    Ideally, you’ll bring:

    * A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline

    * Strong practical knowledge of NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts

    * Experience within the water, utilities or infrastructure sectors

    * Strong commercial and financial awareness

    * Experience of cost control, forecasting and CVRs

    * Confident negotiation and stakeholder-management skills

    * The ability to identify contractual and commercial risks before they become issues

    * Experience supporting or mentoring less-experienced surveyors

    * Professional membership or progress towards membership is desirable

    Why FLI Water?

    This isn't simply a reporting role. You'll have the opportunity to influence project outcomes, work closely with key stakeholders and take genuine commercial ownership.

    For an experienced QS looking to step into a senior position with greater responsibility, or an established Senior QS looking for their next challenge within the water and infrastructure sector, this could be an excellent next move
