Supply Heroes are recruiting multiple SEMH Teaching Assistants on behalf of a welcoming and supportive Primary School in B16, Birmingham.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a Good-rated primary school that is committed to providing outstanding support for pupils with additional needs. The school is seeking dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistants who can support children with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs, alongside pupils with ASD and ADHD.
These are full-time, long-term positions with the potential to continue for the remainder of the academic year and beyond for the right candidates.
The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require additional support to access learning, regulate their emotions and engage positively within the school environment.
You will:
* Support pupils with SEMH, ASD and ADHD needs
* Build positive and trusting relationships with children
* Help pupils regulate emotions and behaviour
* Support communication, social interaction and engagement
* Work on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
* Implement behaviour and support strategies consistently
* Encourage pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence
* Liaise effectively with teaching staff and SEND professionals
* Create a safe, calm and nurturing environment for learning
The Ideal Candidate
The school is looking for individuals who:
* Have previous experience working with SEMH, ASD, ADHD or other additional needs
* Understand that behaviour is often a form of communication
* Can recognise signs of dysregulation and respond appropriately
* Remain calm, patient and consistent under pressure
* Have excellent communication and relationship-building skills
* Are proactive and able to use their own initiative
* Can adapt their approach to suit individual pupils
* Are confident problem-solvers who can think on their feet
* Have experience working within schools, alternative provisions, youth work, care settings or similar environments
