How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Project Quantity Surveyor
    Cornwall
    Permanent
    Full-Time
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established and growing construction company delivering high-quality, design-led developments across Cornwall.

With projects typically valued at £5 million and above, this is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative commercial team and take ownership of the financial and contractual management of prestigious construction schemes. From procurement and subcontract negotiations through to cost reporting and final accounts, you will play a key role in driving commercial performance and ensuring successful project delivery.

    The Role
As Project Quantity Surveyor, you will manage the commercial aspects of projects throughout the construction lifecycle, working closely with project teams, clients, consultants and subcontractors to maintain financial control, manage contractual obligations and maximise commercial value.

    Key Responsibilities

Manage the commercial performance of projects from pre-construction through to completion.
Lead procurement activities, tender evaluations and subcontract negotiations.
Prepare, negotiate and administer subcontract agreements and associated documentation.
Manage interim valuations, payment applications and certification processes.
Monitor variations, change control and extensions of time, ensuring all commercial implications are assessed and recorded.
Manage subcontractor accounts, valuations and final account negotiations.
Prepare monthly cost reports, forecasts and financial updates for senior management.
Monitor project expenditure, cash flow and profitability, identifying and managing commercial risks.
Work closely with project teams to identify opportunities for value engineering and cost efficiencies.
Support estimating, budgeting and cost planning activities where required.
Ensure contractual compliance and maintain accurate commercial records throughout each project.
    About You
The successful candidate will have previous experience in a Quantity Surveying role within the construction industry, with the confidence to manage commercial responsibilities independently while contributing to a wider project team.

You will be commercially astute, well organised and proactive, with strong negotiation skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with clients, subcontractors and colleagues.

    You will offer:

Experience managing the commercial aspects of construction projects.
Strong knowledge of procurement, subcontract management, cost reporting and final accounts.
Experience working with JCT contracts and associated contract administration.
Excellent financial, analytical and negotiation skills, with strong attention to detail.
The ability to manage competing priorities and meet commercial deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant commercial or project management software.
A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline, or be working towards a relevant professional qualification such as RICS.
    A full UK driving licence.
Experience across commercial, residential, hospitality or mixed-use developments would be advantageous.
    The Opportunity
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing construction business with an impressive portfolio of high-quality projects across Cornwall. You will have the opportunity to take ownership of significant schemes, contribute to commercial decision-making and further develop your career within an established and collaborative team.
