How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Electrical Engineer

    Location: Nottingham
    Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 DOE

    The Company

A leading manufacturer of specialist testing equipment is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join its engineering team. The business designs and manufactures bespoke machinery used by universities and research facilities worldwide, with products supplied to over 75 countries.

With in-house design, manufacturing and testing capabilities, the company produces a wide variety of equipment, incorporating electrical control systems, motors, pumps, sensors and instrumentation. Every project brings different technical requirements, making this an interesting opportunity for an engineer who enjoys variety and practical problem-solving.

With around 90 employees, the business offers a friendly, collaborative working environment where engineers work closely with production and other departments. Having recently become employee-owned, the company continues to develop its business while maintaining a hands-on engineering culture.

    The Role

As an Electrical Engineer, you will provide electrical design and technical support across existing products, working closely with production, purchasing, service and sales. This is a practical, production-focused position rather than a product development role, with responsibility for maintaining and updating electrical drawings, selecting components and resolving technical issues.

You'll work with a variety of electrical systems, including motors, pumps, PCBs, pressure sensors, transducers and control panels, ensuring components are correctly connected, protected and documented.

This is a predominantly office-based role, with regular visits to the shop floor to understand the equipment, support manufacturing and see your work put into practice. You'll be one of only two Electrical Engineers in the business, giving you the opportunity to take ownership of your work and make a direct contribution to the company's operations.

    Your Responsibilities Will Include:

Producing and updating electrical circuit diagrams, wiring drawings and control panel schematics.
Selecting electrical components, including motors, pumps, switches, contactors, sensors, transducers and instrumentation.
Specifying appropriate fuses, circuit protection and cable sizes to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Working with electrical systems up to 400V three-phase, including power and control connections.
Supporting existing products where components become obsolete, identifying suitable replacements and updating technical documentation.
Ensuring electrical designs and documentation meet relevant standards and safety requirements.
Supporting production, purchasing, service and sales teams with electrical queries and technical problem-solving.
Working with PCBs, control panels and associated instrumentation to ensure components are correctly integrated.
Collaborating with manufacturing teams to investigate faults, resolve issues and support the build process.
Maintaining accurate electrical drawings and documentation, using CAD software such as OrCAD Electrical.
    What We're Looking For

An experienced Electrical Engineer with at least five years' relevant experience.
A background in manufacturing, machinery or a similar engineering environment.
Experience working with electrical systems up to 400V three-phase.
Strong understanding of electrical wiring diagrams, circuit design and control panel schematics.
Experience working with motors, pumps, electrical components and associated control systems.
Knowledge of electrical protection, fuse selection and cable sizing.
An understanding of relevant electrical standards and safe working practices.
Experience working to standards such as IPC-A-620 or within an ISO 9001-controlled environment.
A practical, methodical and reliable approach, with the ability to investigate problems and find effective solutions.
Good communication skills and the ability to support colleagues across different departments.
Experience with OrCAD Electrical would be beneficial, although training on the software can be picked up by someone with the right electrical design background. Familiarity with VFDs, PCB connections, instrumentation, ERP or MRP systems such as SAP would also be advantageous.

Experience working with different international electrical standards, voltages and connection requirements would be particularly useful, given the company's global customer base.

    The Benefits

    Competitive Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 DOE.
Working Environment: Friendly, established engineering team with a hands-on approach.
Variety: Work on a diverse range of bespoke machinery and electrical systems.
Responsibility: Take ownership of electrical design and production support within a small engineering team.
Exposure: Work across design, production, purchasing, service and sales.
Stability: Join an established manufacturer with a global customer base and employee-owned structure.
    How to Apply

If you're an Electrical Engineer looking for a varied, hands-on role where you can apply your electrical design skills to real-world machinery and production challenges, please send your CV to Matt Taylor at or call (phone number removed) for more information.

ATA is committed to creating a diverse workforce and is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of age, disability, gender, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation
