How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    The Client

Our client is an ambitious and growing Essex-based construction contractor, delivering a range of new build, refurbishment and specialist construction projects across Essex, Suffolk and the surrounding areas.

Operating as part of an established group of construction businesses, they benefit from in-house expertise across carpentry, fire doors, finishing trades and associated building works.

With plans to further develop their main contracting operation and undertake projects up to approximately £3m in value, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Business Development Manager to help drive the next stage of their growth.

    The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an established Business Development Manager with strong connections across the Essex and Suffolk construction market to join an ambitious regional contractor at an exciting stage of its development.

Working closely with the Directors, you will play a key role in developing the company's main contracting business, identifying new opportunities, establishing relationships with prospective clients and building a sustainable pipeline of construction and refurbishment projects.

The position offers considerable autonomy and the opportunity to influence the wider commercial direction of the business, including its approach to business development, client engagement and market positioning.

The successful candidate will ideally bring an established network of contacts within the local construction and property sectors, with the ability to open doors, generate enquiries and develop long-term client relationships.

This is not simply a sales role. The business is looking for someone who can become a key part of its growth strategy, helping to establish its reputation as a credible regional main contractor.

    Responsibilities

    *

Identifying and developing new business opportunities across the Essex and Suffolk construction markets

    *

Building relationships with developers, commercial property owners, consultants, architects and other potential clients

    *

Generating enquiries for new build, refurbishment and general contracting projects

    *

Developing and maintaining a strong pipeline of prospective projects

    *

Establishing relationships with key decision-makers and generating repeat business

    *

Working closely with Directors to develop and implement business development strategies

    *

Attending client meetings, networking events and industry functions

    *

Supporting tender opportunities, bid submissions and commercial negotiations

    *

Maintaining regular contact with clients throughout project delivery and following completion

    *

Identifying opportunities to promote the company's wider construction and specialist trade capabilities

    *

Supporting improvements to company marketing materials, online presence and market positioning

    *

Monitoring local market activity and identifying emerging opportunities for growth

    Qualifications & Experience

    *

Previous experience within Business Development, Work Winning, Client Relationships or a similar commercially focused role

    *

Strong understanding of the construction industry, ideally within main contracting, refurbishment or specialist contracting

    *

Established network of contacts across Essex, Suffolk and the surrounding areas

    *

Proven track record of generating new business opportunities and developing client relationships

    *

Good understanding of construction procurement, tendering and project delivery

    *

Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills

    *

    Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities

    *

Self-motivated, proactive and capable of working independently

    *

Ability to contribute to wider business growth strategies

    *

    Full UK driving licence required
