How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Production Technician

    Location: Barrow-in-Furness
Department: Morecambe Hub – Terminal Operations
    Reports to: Production Team Lead
    Contract: 2 years

    Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Production Technician to join the Production Operations team at the Barrow Gas Terminals. The Production Technician will play a key role in the safe and efficient operation of high-pressure gas processing plant, utilities and associated equipment.

Working as part of a rotating shift team, the Production Technician will monitor plant performance, maintain product quality and support the delivery of gas production schedules. This role requires a strong understanding of process operations, a commitment to health, safety and environmental standards, and the ability to work independently during routine activities.

    Key Responsibilities

As a Production Technician, you will operate and monitor gas processing plant and utilities equipment using control room systems and regular on-site inspections. You will record operating data, identify abnormalities and produce reports to support safe, reliable and efficient production.

The Production Technician will also take responsibility for sampling and analysing process materials, monitoring product quality and checking that effluent discharges meet required standards. You will review plant performance data, identify opportunities for improvement and ensure chemicals, spare parts and consumables are available to maintain operational continuity.

You will support the Production Team Lead with Permit to Work processes and the preparation of plant for planned maintenance and defect repairs. Responsibilities will include monitoring work within your designated area, ensuring activities comply with relevant permits and procedures, identifying equipment defects, raising work orders and carrying out first-line maintenance where appropriate.

The Production Technician will help maintain and improve operating procedures, provide on-the-job guidance to colleagues where required, and ensure thorough shift handovers to support safe and effective operations. You will also undertake designated emergency response duties and maintain the competencies required for the role.

    Health, Safety and Teamwork

Safety is central to the Production Technician role. You will follow company procedures, support process safety and environmental compliance, and contribute to a positive Incident Free Workplace culture.

You will work closely with the Production Team Lead and other shift colleagues, building effective relationships across departments. The Production Technician must communicate clearly, share operational knowledge and maintain accurate records to support safe decision-making.

You will also be expected to maintain your technical skills, complete mandatory training and take responsibility for your ongoing professional development.

    Skills and Experience

The successful Production Technician will have practical experience in petrochemical process operations or maintenance, alongside a sound understanding of engineering principles and industrial process plant.

Experience with terminal process equipment, gas processing systems or similar complex operational environments would be beneficial. Candidates should understand the hazards associated with high-pressure process operations and demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining health, safety and environmental standards.

You will need good analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, effective communication and the ability to work collaboratively within a close-knit shift team. The ability to work independently during routine operations is also essential.

    Qualifications

A BTEC Ordinary Certificate or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline is required. An engineering apprenticeship supported by relevant experience and qualifications, ideally to ONC level or equivalent, would be advantageous.

Candidates must also be willing to complete all mandatory company training and maintain the competencies required for the Production Technician position.

    The Opportunity

This is an opportunity for a skilled Production Technician to join an established terminal operations team and contribute to the safe, reliable and efficient processing of natural gas.

The Production Technician will play an important role in maintaining plant integrity, supporting production targets and ensuring operational activities are completed safely and in line with company standards
