How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Programme Manager - Engineering & Capital Projects

    Location: Carlisle

    Salary: £50,000 to £55,000, dependent on experience

    Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week

    Contract: Permanent

    Adecco Workington are delighted to be recruiting for an experienced Programme Manager to join a well-established global engineering and manufacturing organisation based in Carlisle.

    This is a senior opportunity for an experienced project or programme management professional to take ownership of complex engineering and capital projects, working with customers and internal teams across the full project lifecycle.

    The successful candidate will coordinate multiple projects from the initial customer order through to completion, shipment and delivery. Projects can involve specialist machinery, engineering, installation and the development of new manufacturing facilities, providing the opportunity to work on technically interesting and varied projects with an international customer base.

    We are particularly interested in candidates with experience gained within engineering, manufacturing, capital equipment or machinery environments. However, experienced project professionals from construction, infrastructure or other complex project-led sectors will also be considered.

    The role

    As Programme Manager, you will take ownership of planning, coordinating and delivering a portfolio of complex projects.

    You will work closely with customers, engineering, operations, supply chain, sales and senior management to ensure projects are effectively planned, appropriately resourced and delivered to the required standards, timescales and customer expectations.

    Alongside project delivery, you will have the opportunity to help develop and improve project management processes, systems and ways of working across the wider Projects function.

    Key responsibilities

    Take ownership of multiple complex engineering projects from customer order through to delivery.
    Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, milestones and timelines.
    Work closely with sales and customers to understand project requirements and expectations.
    Review project contracts, specifications and supporting documentation.
    Coordinate cross-functional teams across engineering, operations, supply chain and other departments.
    Chair regular project review meetings with key departmental and functional stakeholders.
    Monitor project milestones, resources, priorities, scope and overall progress.
    Identify potential risks, delays and resource conflicts and take proactive action to resolve them.
    Maintain regular communication with customers and provide clear, accurate project updates.
    Coordinate the completion, review and approval of project specifications.
    Manage changes to projects and update schedules accordingly.
    Ensure engineering requirements and customer approval processes are clearly understood and achieved.
    Produce capacity planning information to support effective resource allocation.
    Ensure project documentation and milestone meetings are completed to the required standards.
    Review existing project management processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
    Support the standardisation of project schedules, processes and task lists.
    Assist with the implementation and development of project management systems.
    Provide guidance and support to Project Coordinators.
    Build strong working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.About you

    We are looking for an experienced project or programme management professional who is confident managing complex projects and multiple workstreams.

    You will ideally have:

    Significant experience managing complex engineering, manufacturing, construction, infrastructure or capital projects.
    Experience managing multiple projects or workstreams simultaneously.
    Strong project planning, scheduling and analytical skills.
    The ability to manage competing priorities, resources and deadlines.
    Experience working across multiple functions, including engineering, operations and supply chain.
    Strong customer and stakeholder management skills.
    A proactive approach to identifying and resolving project delivery issues.
    Excellent communication, presentation and influencing skills.
    The confidence to chair meetings and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
    Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.
    Experience with Microsoft Project or similar project management software would be advantageous.
    A relevant qualification in engineering, project management, business, operations or a related discipline would be beneficial, although equivalent professional experience will also be considered.What is on offer?
