You will like
The Project Manager / Construction Project Manager job itself, where you will take responsibility for the successful delivery of specialist civil engineering and infrastructure projects from initial planning and mobilisation through to construction completion and handover.
Working closely with clients, designers, site teams, subcontractors and suppliers, you will manage project programmes, budgets, commercial performance, quality and health and safety.
More specifically, you will:
Manage civil engineering and construction projects to agreed programmes, budgets and quality standards.
Lead project planning, mobilisation, construction delivery and successful handover.
Act as the principal day-to-day contact for clients, attending progress meetings and providing regular updates.
Procure, appoint and coordinate subcontractors and suppliers, monitoring performance and payments.
Manage project budgets, cost reporting, financial forecasts, valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
Administer NEC and/or JCT construction contracts, including variations, early warnings and compensation events.
Develop, monitor and maintain construction programmes and project schedules.
Prepare and review risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 and construction health and safety requirements.
Liaise with civil, structural and other engineering designers to resolve technical queries and manage design changes.
Coordinate project completion, handover documentation, as-built information and quality records.
You will have
To succeed as Project Manager / Civil Engineering Project Manager, you will ideally have a Civil Engineering degree or relevant equivalent qualification, alongside experience delivering civil engineering, construction or infrastructure projects.
You will also demonstrate:
Proven experience managing or delivering civil engineering and infrastructure construction projects.
Strong project planning, organisation, coordination and communication skills.
Sound commercial awareness, including budgeting, forecasting, cost reporting and financial control.
Working knowledge of NEC and/or JCT construction contracts.
Experience managing subcontractors, suppliers and client relationships.
Good understanding of CDM 2015, construction site safety and quality standards.
Competence with Microsoft Excel and construction programming software.
A proactive, practical approach to problem-solving and project delivery.
Full UK driving licence and flexibility for occasional UK travel and overnight stays.
Experience of Design & Build projects, progress towards professional membership, or qualifications such as SMSTS, SSSTS or CSCS would be advantageous.
An interest in environmental engineering, water infrastructure, rivers, sustainability or ecological restoration would be particularly welcome, although previous experience in these specialist sectors is not essential.
Applications from ex-forces personnel, veterans and military engineers are also encouraged, particularly those with transferable experience in Royal Engineers, military construction, infrastructure delivery, engineering operations or project management.
