Great with people? Turn that strength into a career in education recruitment.
Perhaps you’re the person customers ask for by name. You know how to build rapport, persuade someone to take the next step and keep everything organised behind the scenes.
At Smile Education, we’re looking for a Recruitment Resourcer to help build a community of supply teachers and qualified teaching assistants for our primary schools.
Whether you’re a graduate, changing careers or already working in recruitment, this is an opportunity to put your people skills to work—with structured training, experienced mentors and room to progress.
Recruitment experience isn’t essential. Communication, organisation and resilience are.
What’s in it for you?
£24,000–£28,000 basic salary.
Uncapped commission, with OTE of £30,000–£35,000+.
Hybrid working: three days in the office and two days at home.
A Birmingham city centre office.
Mentoring from a top-performing consultant and an experienced Director.
Structured training and ongoing support.
Genuine progression opportunities, with potential to develop into client care.
A supportive, high-performing culture where your ideas and contribution matter.
The opportunity to build a successful long-term career.
What does a Recruitment Resourcer do?
You’ll work closely with one of our directors to find, attract and support the teachers and teaching assistants their primary schools need.
These professionals have plenty of agencies to choose from. Your role is to give them a reason to choose Smile—and stay with us.
That means listening, understanding what they want from work, building trust and following through. It also means helping them move efficiently from their first enquiry through registration and safeguarding checks to being ready for work.
Picture a typical day: speaking to a teaching assistant about their next move, following up with a recommended teacher, contacting a university about meeting its students, and working with our administrators to complete a candidate’s registration.
Your responsibilities
Candidate attraction: find supply teachers and qualified teaching assistants through job adverts, applications, referrals, networking and proactive outreach.
Relationship building: understand candidates’ experience, preferences and availability, and keep in regular contact.
Candidate engagement: explain the opportunities available through Smile and confidently encourage suitable people to join us.
Community building: develop relationships with universities, colleges and training providers, and suggest fresh ways to reach candidates.
Recruitment administration: follow up on documents, maintain accurate records and keep registrations moving.
Safeguarding and compliance: follow our processes thoroughly and raise questions or concerns promptly.
Teamwork: communicate clearly with the director and administrators, focusing your activity on our primary schools’ staffing needs.
Your focus is on attracting and supporting candidates, rather than selling recruitment services to schools. You’ll still need to be persuasive, proactive and comfortable picking up the phone.
What will help you succeed?
You’ll enjoy meeting people and starting conversations. You’ll be able to build rapport, earn trust and stay organised when several things need your attention.
You’ll bring:
Strong communication and customer service skills.
The ability to listen, persuade and build lasting relationships.
A warm, engaging approach that makes people feel valued.
Excellent organisation, accuracy and attention to detail.
Confidence reaching out to new people and following up.
Resilience, persistence and a willingness to learn.
A collaborative approach and a commitment to safeguarding.
Relationships take time to build. Some people won’t answer, some will say no, and others will choose another agency. Especially at the beginning, you’ll need to handle setbacks without taking them personally, learn from your conversations and keep going.
As those relationships grow, so do the rewards: candidates who choose you, referrals from people you’ve helped, commission opportunities and schools getting the support they need because of your work.
Your background could be more relevant than you think
We welcome applications from people with experience in retail, travel, hospitality, customer service, sales, recruitment or education, as well as graduates and career changers.
You may have helped customers make decisions, built repeat business, managed a busy workload or kept an important process on track. Those skills can transfer into recruitment.
A degree isn’t essential. We’re interested in your strengths, attitude and potential.
Why Smile Education?
Since 2009, Smile Education has been bringing schools and education professionals together. Our values of Quality, Commitment and Teamwork shape how we work.
As a Recruitment Resourcer, you’ll help bring our three pillars to life:
Human first: get to know the person behind the CV. Listen to their ambitions and circumstances and help them feel supported throughout their journey with Smile.
Integrated into communities: build lasting connections with schools, universities, colleges and training providers, contributing to the education communities we serve.
Compliant and trustworthy: put safeguarding at the heart of every registration, communicate honestly and deliver on your commitments.
You’ll work directly with an experienced director, contribute your own ideas and see how your efforts help primary schools find the people they need.
Ready to put your people skills to work?
Apply with your CV. We’d love to hear an example of how you’ve built a strong relationship, persuaded someone to take action or kept going through a challenge.
