The Opportunity
Strata Consulting is recruiting an experienced Principal Geotechnical Engineer for a highly respected, established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically accomplished Geotechnical Engineer to work on a fully remote basis, delivering a range of challenging civil engineering, infrastructure and development projects.
You will take responsibility for delivering geotechnical design packages, providing specialist technical expertise and working collaboratively with civil and structural engineering teams.
The position would suit an experienced Senior or Principal Geotechnical Engineer who enjoys technical autonomy, complex engineering challenges and taking ownership of project deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
Lead geotechnical design packages from ground investigation and interpretation through to detailed design and construction support.
Interpret ground investigation information and develop geotechnical ground models.
Undertake the analysis and design of shallow and deep foundations, including piled foundations.
Design and assess retaining structures, earthworks, slopes and ground improvement solutions.
Carry out slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity and foundation assessments.
Produce and review detailed calculations, geotechnical reports, specifications and technical documentation.
Provide technical advice on ground conditions, geotechnical risks and appropriate engineering solutions.
Ensure designs comply with Eurocode 7, British Standards and relevant industry guidance.
Coordinate with civil, structural and other engineering disciplines.
Review and check technical designs and support junior engineers where required.
Manage technical deliverables to agreed project programmes and deadlines.
Essential Requirements
Significant experience in geotechnical design within an engineering consultancy.
Experience operating at Senior or Principal Engineer level.
Strong knowledge of foundation engineering, retaining structures, slope stability and earthworks.
Proven ability to interpret ground investigation data and develop ground models.
Excellent understanding of Eurocode 7 and UK geotechnical design standards.
Experience producing and checking detailed calculations and technical reports.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple technical deliverables.
Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related subject.
Desirable Experience
Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Chartered Geologist (CGeol).
Experience using PLAXIS, Oasys or equivalent geotechnical design software.
Experience across highways, infrastructure, residential, commercial or major development projects.
Knowledge of temporary works and construction-stage geotechnical design.
Experience providing technical approval and design checking.
