How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Writing robust Python software for AI applications on hardware technologies

This rapidly expanding defence start-up develops AI-based hardware products. They are recruiting in a number of areas and are looking to recruit an experienced / junior Software Engineer to join their team.

As their next Software Engineer hire, you would join a team that are working on early-stage prototypes as well as more mature product technologies. The position is fully hands-on and requires a good sense of understanding and experience for task prioritisation, as well as ability to work on projects concurrently.

    Requirements:
    - 1st in Computer Science or similar from a top Russell Group university (MSc or PhD would be desirable). This should also include A/A* A-levels in Maths and Physics.
    - Extensive demonstrable experience using Python for complex prototyping and / or production code (relevant internship experience would be highly beneficial). Must have the aptitude to pick up new languages and technologies when needed.
    - Experience with hardware devices or sensors. Any experience with embedded systems, mobile OS or computer networking would be beneficial.
    - Experience with deep-learning frameworks (TensorFlow or PyTorch) would be desirable.
    - Exposure to computational statistics, algorithm development or machine learning optimisation would be a bonus.

Due to projects being related to defence applications, candidates must be British nationals, resident in the UK for the past 5 years and eligible for security clearance.

The office for this role is currently based south of Cambridge (with plans to relocate in the near future to Cambridge) and this role would require candidates to be fully onsite. Due to the company having multiple office locations, they are wanting candidates to have a driving licence or are in the process of obtaining a licence. On offer is a competitive salary package, and the opportunity to work on interesting projects that will challenge you technically and allow you to develop your skills and knowledge with like-minded engineers.

Keywords: Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Sensors, Embedded Systems, Hardware Interface, Mobile OS, Algorithms, Statistics, Machine Learning, Defence, Security Clearance, Start Up
