About the Role
Teach Now is seeking an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Barnet, working across different classes and year groups rather than supporting one pupil exclusively.
You will support children with a range of additional needs, including autism, complex learning needs, behavioural and emotional regulation needs, and physical disabilities. Depending on the needs of the day, your work may include classroom support, helping pupils manage transitions, mobility assistance, communication support and personal care.
You will work closely with teachers, SEND staff and other professionals, following individual behaviour plans, care plans and agreed strategies. Guidance and relevant training will be provided before specialist procedures are carried out independently.
This is a varied role suited to someone who is confident adapting quickly, building positive relationships and providing calm, consistent support across different needs and classroom environments.
Key Responsibilities
Support pupils with autism, complex needs, physical disabilities and behavioural or emotional regulation needs.
Help children access learning and participate confidently in classroom activities.
Follow individual behaviour plans, care plans and agreed support strategies.
Assist with mobility and personal care in line with training and individual needs.
Use communication aids and support therapy-based activities where appropriate.
Work closely with teachers and other professionals, sharing observations and adapting support.
Move between pupils, classrooms and year groups according to school needs.
Requirements
Previous experience supporting autistic children or young people.
Experience supporting challenging behaviour and emotional regulation.
Experience working with children or young people with physical disabilities or mobility needs.
Confidence providing personal care while maintaining dignity, privacy and safeguarding standards.
Understanding of individual behaviour plans, care plans and safe working practices.
Flexibility to support pupils across different classes and year groups.
The right to work in the UK and willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS and other safeguarding checks.
What the School Offers
A varied SEND role across the primary age range.
Experience supporting a broad range of additional needs.
Guidance and relevant training linked to individual pupils.
Opportunities to work alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals.
The chance to build practical SEND experience across different classroom settings.
A supportive environment focused on inclusion, participation and independence.
