About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Management Accountant / Assistant Finance Manager to join our finance team in Barking. This is a hands-on role responsible for supporting the Finance Manager with the delivery of accurate financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, statutory compliance, and business partnering activities.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining strong financial controls, providing meaningful management information, and supporting strategic decision-making across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare monthly management accounts, financial reports, and supporting analysis within agreed deadlines.
Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations.
Produce balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning activities.
Deliver detailed variance analysis and provide commentary to senior management.
Manage fixed asset registers, depreciation schedules, and lease accounting records.
Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring effective controls and processes.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and statutory requirements.
Support external audits and liaise with auditors, banks, and external stakeholders.
Monitor company expenses and identify opportunities for cost control and process improvement.
Handle banking activities, foreign currency transactions, and cash management.
Assist with VAT returns, tax compliance, and other regulatory reporting requirements.
Partner with operational managers to provide financial insight and support business performance.
Develop and improve financial processes, controls, and reporting systems.
Support and mentor junior members of the finance team where required.Skills & Experience
ACCA, CIMA, ACA qualified or finalist.
Minimum 5 years' experience in a management accounting or finance role.
Strong knowledge of financial reporting, month-end processes, and reconciliations.
Experience preparing budgets, forecasts, and management accounts.
Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial modelling.
Experience using ERP or accounting systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and organisational abilities.
Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
Previous experience within a fast-paced commercial environment is desirable.
