The Opportunity
An established engineering business specialising in conveyor and material handling solutions is looking to recruit a Conveyor Belting Fabricator & Field Service Engineer to join its growing operations team.
This is a varied, hands-on position that combines workshop-based belt fabrication with field-based installation, maintenance and repair work at customer sites across a range of industries. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring conveyor systems operate safely, efficiently and with minimal downtime.
This opportunity would suit someone with previous conveyor belting, mechanical maintenance, field service or industrial engineering experience who enjoys a mixture of technical workshop and site-based work.
Key Responsibilities
Workshop Duties
Fabricate and assemble conveyor belts to customer specifications.
Carry out various belt joining and splicing methods.
Install accessories including guides, cleats, tracking systems and specialist components.
Operate workshop machinery and fabrication equipment safely and efficiently.
Work from technical drawings and production instructions.
Perform quality inspections before completed products are dispatched.
Maintain accurate documentation and production records.
Ensure a clean, organised and safe working environment.Site Installation & Service
Install and replace conveyor belts at customer facilities.
Attend breakdowns and provide effective repair solutions.
Carry out preventative maintenance inspections and planned service visits.
Track, align and tension conveyor systems.
Diagnose mechanical faults and identify root causes of equipment issues.
Replace components including rollers, pulleys, bearings and associated conveyor parts.
Support customer shutdowns and project work.
Deliver high standards of workmanship while minimising operational disruption.Customer Support
Build positive relationships with clients on-site.
Provide technical guidance on conveyor maintenance and best practices.
Complete service reports and relevant documentation.
Communicate effectively with engineering, maintenance and production teams.
Identify opportunities for additional support or improvements where appropriate.Health & Safety
Follow all company and customer site safety procedures.
Complete risk assessments and safe systems of work where required.
Adhere to permit-to-work and isolation procedures.
Use PPE correctly and promote a strong safety culture.
Maintain company tools, equipment and vehicles to a high standard.Skills & Experience Required
Previous experience working with conveyor belts, material handling systems or industrial machinery.
Strong mechanical aptitude and fault-finding ability.
Experience carrying out installation, maintenance or repair work in industrial environments.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Full UK Driving Licence.
Flexible approach to travel, overtime and occasional overnight stays.Desirable Experience
Conveyor belt fabrication or splicing experience.
Mechanical maintenance background.
Experience within manufacturing, logistics, food production or packaging environments.
Welding or fabrication skills.
Knowledge of power transmission products.
Electrical awareness.
Experience working to GMP or regulated industry standards.Qualifications
Essential
GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience.Desirable
NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering.
Engineering apprenticeship.
CSCS Card.
IPAF or PASMA certification.
FLT Licence.
First Aid qualification.
IOSH or equivalent health and safety training.Personal Attributes

The role is contracted at 40 hours per week; however, flexibility is required due to the nature of customer operations. Occasional weekend work, overtime, shutdown support and participation in an on-call rota may be required.
