How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Description:

    Quantity Surveyor – West Yorkshire

    £55,000 – £65,000 + Package (Based on Experience)

We are currently recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to join an established housebuilder delivering traditional and affordable housing developments across Yorkshire.

Based from the company's West Yorkshire office, this position will involve a mixture of office and site-based working, offering the opportunity to take responsibility for the commercial management of residential developments from procurement through to final account.

The successful candidate will have previous experience within housebuilding, either directly for a residential developer or through a subcontractor operating within the residential construction sector. You will work closely with the wider Commercial and Construction teams, helping to control costs, manage subcontractor relationships and ensure developments are delivered in line with agreed budgets and commercial objectives.

    The Role

    *

Manage the commercial aspects of residential developments, ensuring costs are controlled throughout the construction lifecycle.

    *

Prepare and monitor project budgets, cost forecasts and commercial reports.

    *

Procure subcontract packages, evaluate quotations and negotiate competitive commercial terms.

    *

Prepare and manage subcontract orders, valuations, variations, payment applications and final accounts.

    *

Monitor project expenditure, identify commercial risks and implement cost-control measures.

    *

Undertake regular site visits to review progress and resolve commercial issues.

    *

Work closely with Site Management to maintain financial control and ensure projects remain within budget.

    *

Review drawings, specifications and construction information to identify cost implications and savings opportunities.

    *

Build effective relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders.

    *

Identify opportunities to improve commercial performance across traditional and affordable housing developments.

    About You

    *

Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within housebuilding or residential construction, either for a housebuilder or relevant subcontractor.

    *

Good understanding of traditional housing construction methods, residential build costs and subcontract packages.

    *

Experience in subcontract procurement, cost reporting, valuations, variations and final accounts.

    *

Strong commercial awareness and the ability to manage budgets, identify risks and protect project profitability.

    *

Confident negotiating with subcontractors and suppliers.

    *

Experience working alongside site teams on live construction projects.

    *

Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail.

    *

Confident using Microsoft Excel and relevant commercial software.

    *

Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to resolving commercial issues.

    *

Relevant HNC, HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a construction-related discipline would be advantageous.

    *

Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between the West Yorkshire office and sites across the region.

    Salary & Package

    *

    £55,000 – £65,000, based on experience.

    *

    Car allowance.

    *

    Performance-related bonus.

    *

    Company pension scheme.

    *

    Additional company benefits.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor with residential construction experience to join an established Yorkshire developer, taking an active role in the commercial management of traditional and affordable housing developments.
