How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    R&D Technician | Cambourne | Inside IR35 Contract

Our client is an innovative technology business developing advanced connected products for the agricultural technology sector. With a focus on product innovation, connectivity and smart hardware, the organisation is investing in the next generation of technology designed to deliver practical benefits to customers.

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on technician to work across electronics, mechanical assembly, prototyping and product testing, helping turn new designs into fully tested, functional products.

    The Role

As an R&D Test & Development Technician, you will play a key role in supporting laboratory, workshop and testing activities throughout the product development lifecycle.

This is a practical, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys troubleshooting, building and testing hardware, and working across multiple engineering disciplines.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Assemble and modify electronic and electromechanical prototypes, including PCBs, sensors, wiring and mechanical components.

    * Carry out soldering of wires and surface-mount components where required.

    * Support programming, calibration, configuration and functional testing of prototype hardware.

    * Design, build and maintain test setups for functional testing and system integration.

    * Develop and improve test rigs to support product development and verification activities.

    * Support the day-to-day running of the R&D laboratory, workshop and stores.

    * Maintain, calibrate and arrange servicing or inspection of laboratory and workshop equipment.

    Requirements

    Essential experience and skills

    * Relevant experience as a test technician, development technician or similar hands-on engineering role involving electromechanical products.

    * Strong practical experience working with hardware systems, electronic instrumentation, debugging and system-level integration.

    * Experience assembling, testing or troubleshooting electronic and mechanical components.

    * A structured and organised approach to working in a laboratory, workshop or engineering environment.

    * Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on mindset.

    Qualifications

    * An engineering or technician diploma, or equivalent practical experience and technical training.

    * A degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline would be advantageous.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing product development team working on innovative connected technology within the Agritech sector.

You will gain hands-on exposure to a broad range of electronic, mechanical and testing technologies, with the opportunity to contribute directly to prototype development, system integration and product performance.

If you enjoy practical engineering, solving technical challenges and helping bring new products from concept to reality, this role offers an exciting opportunity to develop your skills within a collaborative, international R&D environment
