How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    HM59: Junior Technical Engineer

    Location: Flintshire

    Salary: Competitive Hourly Rate | 6 month Contract

    Overview:

    First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Junior Technical Engineer on behalf of one of our clients.

    To measure and characterise the performance of customer mechanical test and measurement equipment by comparison to calibration standards or artefacts, in accordance with authorised procedure and metrological good practice.

    Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel however all candidates will be given due consideration.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Understanding and complying with statutory, quality and organisational requirements for aviation, including safety, documentation, occupational health and safety in an aviation environment.
    To carry out calibration and/or measurements in accordance with authorised documentation.
    Adjustment or partial reconditioning of customer assets that have drifted outside specification (where possible).
    To complete all relevant paperwork to declare the customer asset as conforming to required specification and having a calibration that is traceable to the International System of Units.
    To ensure that calibration standards or artefacts used during measurement activities are those specified in the authorised calibration procedure, are fit for use and hold a valid calibration status.
    To report any suspected issues with calibration standards or artefacts that may compromise the integrity of measurement results.
    To analyse and interpret measurement results, ensuring that customer asset performance is within the specification stated in the applicable calibration statement of requirement and/or standard.
    To update calibration records on the business system prior to and after any calibration activity.
    To ensure that data has been captured accurately regarding calibration assets/artefacts used (metrological traceability) and that any important information regarding customer asset as-found and as-left conditions has been logged.
    To ensure the proper handling of customer assets both during measurement activity and in preparation of hand-over to warehousing team.
    To coordinate with Team Leader and/or Support Engineers in the raising of Request For Change forms for issues that have been identified about documented calibration procedures.
    To carry out pre-production proving of technical documents and to provide feedback to actioning engineer and agree corrective amendment action where necessary.
    To assist in the round-up of calibration standards and artefacts in preparation for internal recalibration or dispatch to external calibration organisations.
    To assist with development of calibration methodology and procedure, where agreed with the Team Leader.
    To follow procedure regarding the bonding of customer assets where a standard or procedure has become unavailable or unsuitable for use.
    To ensure the protection of mechanical calibration standards if the laboratory experiences an unacceptable drift in ambient humidity and temperature conditions outside specified parameters.
    To ensure the cleanliness and integrity of working calibration area in preparation of measurement activity and to maintain on an on-going basis.
    To assist with technical queries received through Helpdesk.
    To coordinate with Engineering Support in the authorisation of alternative Test and Measurement equipment.
    While most of the role will mandate the candidate operate in accordance with authorised procedure to specified tolerancing criteria, the need for opportunities to be involved in the development of improved metrological practice within will be commonplace.
    The candidate may be asked to assist with investigations potentially leading to amendments in existing calibration documentation or procedures.
    The candidate is required to maintain a consistent quality of work and generate technically valid results despite a high degree of repetition.
    Dimensional calibration standards and artefacts can be excessively heavy yet delicate in nature, often mandating the utilisation of multiple operators or specialised lifting equipment.
    Prolonged periods standing while efforts are maintained to avoid transferring vibration or movement to calibration setups.
    Work involved in this calibration discipline is often highly detailed and requires the metrologist to discern fine graduation markings on calibration equipment.
    Correct use of PPE is essential in all aspects of mechanical calibration.
    The main body of the work is carried out in a calibration workshop environment.
    Skills and Qualifications:

    Technical background in mechanical or electronic / electrical engineering.
    BTEC ONC in a relevant engineering discipline / completion of a recognised relevant engineering apprenticeship or similar accredited training or qualified to an equivalent level by experience.
    Ability to work well as part of a team.
    Ability to follow/adhere to technical procedures.
    Working knowledge of IT systems (Word, Excel etc.).
    SC clearance or eligible/willing to be put through SC clearance successful candidate may start with BPSS as minimum with a view to completing SC clearance.
    Desirable:

    Calibration experience would highly desirable.
    Able to interpret measurement results and compare against customer calibration statement of requirement.
    Correct handling of calibration standards and artefacts and construction of suitable test-pieces for mechanical calibration.
    Best metrological practice and principles behind uncertainty of measurement and traceability.
    Use of BEAVER DMS and Microsoft Windows based software packages, including proprietary metrological analysis software (e.g. Roundpak, Calypso, etc.).
    Correct use of hydraulic lifting equipment.
    Correct use and understanding in the principles behind the use of lifting straps and apparatus (requires authorisation).
    Hold and maintain the relevant MAOS authorisations.
