A leading engineering and technology organisation within the aviation communications sector is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join its growing Product Engineering team in Peterborough.

The Role
As a Senior Project Engineer, you will coordinate and organise engineering development activities across multiple projects, working closely with Project Leads, Product Architects, technical specialists and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
You will play a critical role in planning, scheduling, risk management, resource coordination and project delivery, ensuring internal and outsourced development projects are successfully delivered against technical, commercial and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate and support multiple engineering development projects simultaneously
Maintain and manage key project documentation, including Project Quality Plans, Product Release Plans and Statements of Work
Work with Project Leads to define, plan and document project activities and deliverables
Identify and coordinate engineering resource requirements
Schedule and track project activities against development roadmaps and delivery commitments
Monitor project progress and ensure engineering teams maintain accurate task status updates
Identify, document and manage project risks, issues and mitigation plans
Provide accurate project reporting to engineering leadership and wider business stakeholders
Support the generation, management and traceability of project requirements
Ensure required development equipment, tools and materials are identified and available throughout the project lifecycle
Coordinate procurement of prototype hardware, PCBs, metalwork and development materials
Escalate project blockers and delivery risks in a timely manner
Organise and facilitate technical reviews, project meetings and stakeholder reviews
Manage outsourced development activities and third-party engineering partners
Ensure all internal dependencies are delivered to support external development programmes
Drive successful delivery of product roadmap activities and key project milestones
Support departmental planning, resource forecasting and continuous improvement initiatives
Maintain regular communication with Programme Management, Procurement, Operations and other internal stakeholders
What We're Looking For
Applicants should ideally hold a First-Class or Upper Second-Class (2:1) degree in Engineering, Electronics, Communications, Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical discipline, alongside experience working within engineering product development environments.
A strong academic background in Mathematics and Science is highly desirable.
Essential / Desirable Experience
Engineering project coordination or project management experience
Product development lifecycle knowledge from concept through manufacture and product introduction
Experience within engineering design and development environments
Project planning and scheduling using structured methodologies
Risk identification, assessment and mitigation management
Technical documentation, reporting and stakeholder communication
Resource planning and project delivery coordination
Stakeholder management across engineering, operations and commercial functions
Experience working within highly regulated, safety-critical or technology-led industries
Working with multidisciplinary engineering teams
Advantageous Technical Experience
Experience or exposure to one or more of the following areas would be beneficial:
Project management tools such as MS Project, Jira or similar
ERP/MRP systems such as SAP or equivalent
Communications systems and modulation techniques
Electronic circuit design, prototyping and development
Analogue, digital and RF electronics
FPGA technologies and firmware development
Embedded software design and implementation
Software development methodologies
Programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Python, JavaScript or HTML
Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
Network technologies and communication protocols
CAD design of mechanical components and assemblies
Product introduction into manufacturing environments
Candidates are not expected to possess experience across every technical area listed. A broad engineering background and a willingness to develop new skills are highly valued.
