Key Responsibilities:
Prepare feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs for highway, active travel, public realm, bus priority, junction and road safety schemes
Produce high-quality models and drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, including general arrangements, levels, kerbing, paving, signs, lining and construction details
Undertake highway geometric design, swept path analysis, levels and quantities, while coordinating drainage, utilities and other interfaces
Lead projects from inception through to construction support, managing scope, programme, risk, budgets and change
Prepare technical notes, design reports, options assessments, Road Safety Audit responses and technical approval submissions
Act as the day-to-day contact for clients, highway authorities, TfL, developers, contractors and other stakeholders
Manage Section 278 and Section 38 technical approval processes where required
Contribute to quality assurance, technical reviews, fee proposals, bids and the ongoing development of the consultancy
Job Requirements:
Degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
Substantial experience in UK highway design, with the ability to lead detailed schemes independently from feasibility to construction
Strong hands-on skills in AutoCAD and Civil 3D, including corridor and surface modelling, levels and drawing production
Experience in active travel, Healthy Streets, public realm or highway improvement schemes
Understanding of junction design, road safety schemes and responding to Road Safety Audits
Sound knowledge of the DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20 and relevant London design guidance
Experience in project leadership, client relationship management and clear technical writing
Ability to work independently, apply practical engineering judgement and communicate confidently with clients, colleagues and contractors
Experience of bus priority schemes, working with TfL, Section 278 and Section 38 works, traffic signal junction design, drainage and SuDS, MicroDrainage or similar software, and contributing to bids would be advantageous. Professional development towards chartership with the ICE or CIHT is expected, and applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
