How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Bid Manager
    Exeter
    Construction

We’re currently working with a leading Tier 1 construction organisation to recruit a experienced Bid Manager to join its team in Exeter. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Bid Manager who enjoys being involved in the strategy, development and delivery of high-quality bids, working closely with operational and commercial teams to secure new and exciting projects.

The business delivers a diverse portfolio of construction projects across sectors including education, healthcare, retail, industrial, MOD/MoJ and listed buildings, offering an excellent variety of work and the opportunity to play a key role in securing high-profile projects.

    The Role
As Bid Manager, you will take responsibility for the end-to-end bid process, from initial planning and strategy through to final submission.

You’ll develop winning bid strategies, coordinate contributions from across the business and ensure submissions clearly demonstrate the organisation’s understanding of the client, project requirements and key drivers.

Working closely with operational, commercial and project teams, you’ll identify the organisation’s key strengths and differentiators and translate these into compelling, client-focused proposals.

You’ll also provide leadership, guidance and support to colleagues involved in the bid process, helping to deliver consistently high-quality submissions and successful outcomes.

    Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the full bid process from initial opportunity through to final submission.
Develop effective bid and win strategies, tailored to individual clients and projects.
Develop and implement clear writing plans to ensure high-quality, compelling submissions.
Research clients, projects and requirements to demonstrate a strong understanding of their key drivers.
Work collaboratively with operational, commercial, design and project teams to develop robust and innovative proposals.
Develop and communicate the organisation’s key differentiators, capabilities and added value.
Contribute to the development of commercial and programme strategies within tender submissions.
Ensure all bids are accurate, well presented, commercially sound and delivered within agreed timescales.
Provide leadership, coaching and support to colleagues involved in the bid process.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of bid processes, procedures and best practice.
    About You
We’re looking for an experienced Bid Manager with a strong understanding of the construction tendering process and a proven track record of developing successful bids.

    You’ll have:

Previous experience in a Bid Management role within the construction sector.
A strong track record of securing successful work through competitive tendering.
An operational or project management background would be highly advantageous, ideally with previous experience at Project Manager level.
Strong commercial and programme awareness, with the ability to understand and communicate project requirements and strategies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce engaging and persuasive tender content.
The ability to research and understand client requirements and translate these into compelling submissions.
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent, alongside strong Microsoft Office skills.
Degree-level education is desirable but not essential.
A full UK driving licence is essential.
    Why This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to join a progressive and well-established construction organisation where you’ll have a genuine opportunity to influence the success and growth of the business.

You’ll work within a collaborative and supportive environment, with opportunities for professional development, career progression and recognition, alongside a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.

Benefits include flexible working, pension, private healthcare, life assurance, incentive schemes and support for mental wellbeing.

If you’re an experienced Bid Manager looking for your next challenge and want to play a key role in winning a diverse portfolio of construction projects, we’d love to hear from you.
