How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Start Date: October 2026
    Contract: Initially until Christmas 2026, with the potential to extend until July 2027
    Salary: £175 - £260 per day (dependent on experience)
    Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
    Location: Southampton

    Job Description

    Supply Desk is supporting a well-established specialist school in Southampton in its search for a dedicated SEMH Teacher to join the team from October 2026.

    This is a full-time position working with students across Key Stages 3 and 4 who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and personalised lessons, supporting students both academically and emotionally while helping them overcome barriers to learning.

    The role is initially expected to continue until Christmas 2026, with a strong possibility of extension through to July 2027 for the right candidate.

    This opportunity would suit an experienced SEMH Teacher, SEND Teacher, Primary or Secondary Teacher looking to transition into specialist education, or a teacher with a strong passion for supporting vulnerable young people.

    Key Responsibilities

    Deliver engaging and differentiated lessons to students with SEMH needs.
    Adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning and behavioural needs.
    Foster positive relationships that support engagement and emotional wellbeing.
    Plan, prepare and assess lessons in line with curriculum expectations.
    Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback.
    Support students in developing resilience, confidence, and independence.
    Work closely with pastoral, safeguarding, SEND, and behaviour support teams.
    Contribute positively to the wider development of students and the school community.

    Requirements

    Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
    Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or additional needs is desirable.
    Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
    Ability to build positive and professional relationships with students.
    Passion for improving outcomes for vulnerable learners.
    Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing.
    A patient, resilient, and flexible approach to teaching.
    Strong communication and teamwork skills.
