How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    SEND Science Tutor - Hereford

    Location: Hereford, Herefordshire
    Subject: Science
    Phase: Secondary / SEND
    Working Arrangement: In-person

    Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced SEND Science Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one tuition to a young person in Hereford.

    The successful tutor will have strong Science subject knowledge and experience supporting secondary-aged learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs. You will be confident adapting your teaching style, pace and resources to meet individual learning needs, while creating a calm and positive environment where the learner can build confidence and engage with Science.

    Experience supporting young people with anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.

    This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

    The role may involve:

    Providing personalised one-to-one Science tuition to a secondary-aged learner.

    Supporting the learner across the Secondary Science curriculum, including GCSE where appropriate.

    Covering Biology, Chemistry and Physics depending on the learner's needs and the tutor's subject specialism.

    Identifying gaps in scientific knowledge and providing targeted support.

    Breaking down complex scientific concepts into manageable and accessible steps.

    Adapting teaching methods, resources and lesson pace to suit individual learning needs.

    Supporting scientific terminology, understanding, application and problem-solving skills.

    Developing confidence in interpreting scientific information, carrying out calculations and applying knowledge to different contexts.

    Supporting GCSE revision, exam preparation and exam technique where appropriate.

    Supporting learners with gaps in scientific knowledge or confidence.

    Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.

    Supporting learners who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education.

    Helping the learner develop confidence, resilience and independence.

    Encouraging engagement and positive attitudes towards Science and learning.

    Using the learner's interests and strengths to make sessions engaging and accessible.

    Supporting learners who may experience SEMH needs, anxiety or challenging behaviour.

    Using positive behaviour strategies and appropriate de-escalation approaches where required.

    Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback.

    Building a positive and trusting relationship with the learner.

    Working collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner's education.

    Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.

    Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.

    Essential requirements:

    Strong Science subject knowledge at secondary level.

    Experience teaching or tutoring Science.

    Experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs.

    Experience providing one-to-one or personalised educational support is desirable.

    Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs.

    Experience supporting learners who may have barriers to mainstream education is desirable.

    Experience supporting challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.

    A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.

    Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with young people.

    Confidence supporting learners who may be reluctant, anxious or disengaged from education.

    Strong communication and organisational skills.

    Reliable and consistent approach to work.

    Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

    Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
