How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    An established engineering business in the West of Scotland is looking to recruit an experienced Controls Engineer to join its engineering team.

    This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong background in control systems, PLC programming and electrical protection to work on technically interesting projects from initial design and development through to testing and commissioning.

    The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across a range of control and protection systems, contributing to the development and optimisation of complex engineering solutions.

    The Role

    As Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, programming and commissioning of control systems, working closely with other engineering disciplines to deliver robust and reliable solutions.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    Designing and developing control system solutions for engineering projects
    Programming and configuring PLC systems
    Developing and configuring HMI and monitoring systems
    Setting up and configuring electrical protection systems and protection relays
    Working with generator controllers, ECUs and digital AVR systems
    Supporting control system tuning and optimisation
    Working with controls associated with switchgear, transformers and other electrical equipment
    Supporting testing and commissioning activities both in-house and at customer sites
    Diagnosing faults and resolving technical issues
    Producing technical documentation, specifications, reports and test procedures
    Working collaboratively with electrical, mechanical and other engineering teams

    About You

    We're looking for an experienced Controls Engineer with a practical and technically strong approach.

    You should ideally have:

    A degree/HND/HNC or equivalent experience in Electrical, Electronic, Control Systems Engineering or a related discipline
    Previous experience working with industrial control systems
    Strong PLC programming and configuration experience
    Experience developing or configuring HMI systems
    Good analytical and problem-solving skills
    The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team
