For a pupil who finds school difficult, a dependable adult can make returning to a lesson feel possible. Transparency Education is looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant in Croydon to support children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
Your work will combine learning support with patient relationship-building. You will help children understand expectations, use agreed regulation strategies and re-engage after setbacks, working within the class teacher’s and SENCO’s plans.
Responsibilities
• Provide focused support in lessons and during changes of activity.
• Use calm language and agreed approaches to reduce escalation.
• Break learning into achievable steps and recognise effort and progress.
• Support reflection after difficulties when the pupil is ready.
• Keep factual records and report welfare concerns through school procedures.
Requirements
• Relevant experience in a school, youth work, mentoring or care setting.
• An understanding of SEMH needs and consistent professional boundaries.
• The ability to remain composed, follow support plans and work closely with colleagues.
• An enhanced DBS check, or willingness to complete one as part of the recruitment process.
