How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Proposals Engineer

    Location: Dunfermline
    Working Pattern: Full-time, 40 hours per week
    Employment Type: Permanent
    We are currently recruiting for an experienced Proposals Engineer to join a successful engineering business and support its external Technical Sales team.
    This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering professional with strong commercial awareness and a confident communication style to develop their career within a technical sales and proposals environment.
    You will be responsible for responding to customer enquiries, preparing quotations and supporting the wider sales team to deliver commercially successful solutions to both new and existing customers.

    Key Responsibilities

    Respond to incoming customer enquiries via telephone and email.
    Provide technical and commercial support to external Technical Sales Engineers.
    Prepare accurate and competitive quotations in line with customer requirements.
    Identify opportunities to maximise sales, including appropriate up-selling across the product range.
    Develop strong relationships with customers and establish credibility through professional product and service advice.
    Work collaboratively with management and colleagues to identify opportunities to improve products, services and processes.
    Provide sales and purchasing administration support.
    Maintain accurate records and ensure documentation is filed and readily accessible.
    Record customer communications and activity accurately within a CRM system.
    Monitor potential supplier price increases and support negotiations to minimise cost impact.
    Support the achievement of profitable sales across the company's engineering product range.
    Undertake other relevant duties associated with the role.

    Essential Requirements

    Experience selling or supporting the sale of engineering products to new and existing customers.
    Engineering background, ideally with an HNC or higher qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
    Strong commercial awareness and understanding of the sales process.
    Excellent communication and customer service skills.
    Confident and professional telephone manner.
    Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
    Experience using a CRM system would be advantageous.
    Ability to work effectively as part of a wider technical sales team.
