How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

    Job description

    Astute's Power Team is partnering with a renewable energy organisation delivering renewables projects and associated network connections to recruit a Tendering & Design Engineer for its Bellshill site.

    The strategically important Tendering & Design Engineer role comes with hybrid and flexible working, 35 days' annual leave, a company performance bonus, private healthcare, and a salary sacrifice pension scheme.

    Responsibilities and duties of the Tendering & Design Engineer role

    Reporting to the engineering team you will:

    Lead the design of substations, including layout planning, protection and control, earthing design, and auxiliary systems.

    Produce designs and tender submissions for connections and associated electrical infrastructure.

    Conduct technical site assessments and feasibility studies for HV network extensions and reinforcements.

    Develop detailed engineering drawings, including single line diagrams, GA layouts, schematics and wiring diagrams, using AutoCAD.

    Coordinate with structural and civil designers to integrate substation infrastructure and cable routes.

    Liaise with DNOs/IDNOs and ensure designs comply with ENA, BS, IEC and relevant DNO design standards.

    Prepare detailed bills of quantities and cost estimates in collaboration with the estimating team.

    Develop construction design packs incorporating in-house and third-party input for delivery teams.

    Identify and eliminate risks across construction, operational and decommissioning phases.

    Provide technical input during tender evaluations, client meetings and design reviews.

    Ensure all designs meet health, safety, environmental and quality standards.

    Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and best practice.

    Professional qualifications

    We are looking for someone with the following:

    Degree in Electrical Power Engineering, or HNC/HND with extensive HV design experience.

    Minimum 3 years' experience in 33kV or higher voltage design, including substation and HV cable design.

    Proven experience in 33kV substation layout, protection and control, earthing design and auxiliary systems.

    Proficiency in AutoCAD for HV design drawings, including SLDs, schematics, GA layouts and wiring diagrams.

    Strong understanding of HV plant equipment, including transformers, switchgear and CTs/VTs.

    Experience liaising with DNOs/IDNOs for design submissions and approvals.

    Full UK Driving Licence.

    Desirable qualifications and experience include:

    Experience preparing and reviewing protection studies and earthing reports.

    Experience with SCADA projects, PV schedule design or energy conversion systems.

    Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards Chartership.

    Familiarity with relevant electrical design software.

    Previous experience within an ICP utility contractor or IDNO environment.

    Personal skills

    The Tendering & Design Engineer role would suit someone who is:

    Experienced in electrical engineering and the design of new electrical infrastructure.

    Confident leading HV substation design and producing detailed technical drawings.

    Comfortable liaising with DNOs/IDNOs and coordinating with civil and structural design teams.

    Technically minded, with a strong understanding of HV plant and network requirements.

    Able to identify and manage risks across construction, operational and decommissioning phases.

    Familiar with relevant industry standards and committed to maintaining up-to-date technical knowledge.
