How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Help us connect more people with trusted mental health information and support.

Birmingham Mind is the largest independent mental health charity in Birmingham. Since 1962, we have supported people across the city through high quality, person-centred mental health services. Our vision is Better Mental Health for All, and our values shape how we work: we celebrate people, we are better together, we inspire hope, we champion change and we bridge the gap.

We are looking for a creative, organised and values-led Digital Communications Officer to strengthen Birmingham Mind’s digital presence. This is an exciting role for someone who can create engaging, accessible content, support digital campaigns and help colleagues use our website, social media channels and new staff intranet effectively.

    About the role

As Digital Communications Officer, you will play a central role in developing and maintaining Birmingham Mind’s digital presence. You will help design, structure and launch a new staff intranet, create and update website content, and produce digital materials that support our services, campaigns and events.

You will work closely with the Communications & Marketing Lead and colleagues across the organisation to plan and create content, keep digital channels accurate and accessible, support paid and organic campaigns, and provide guidance and training so staff and volunteers can make confident use of our digital platforms.

This is a varied and practical role for someone who enjoys turning information into clear, engaging content, collaborating with different teams and using insight and creativity to improve how people connect with Birmingham Mind.

    About you

You will bring experience of creating engaging content for websites, intranets and social media, together with confidence using content management systems, digital platforms and analytics. You will be an excellent written and verbal communicator who can adapt content for different audiences while maintaining high standards of accuracy, accessibility and brand consistency.

We are particularly interested in hearing from people who can manage multiple projects and deadlines, build positive working relationships and use data and feedback to improve communications. Experience of graphic design or digital content tools, paid campaigns, accessibility standards or communications within mental health and wellbeing services would be an advantage.

Just as importantly, you will be motivated by Birmingham Mind’s purpose. You will be someone who communicates with empathy, acts with integrity, values collaboration and understands the importance of person-centred, inclusive communications for people experiencing mental health difficulties.

    Why join Birmingham Mind?

This is an opportunity to take on a creative role with real variety and purpose. You will help make our information and services easier to find, strengthen engagement with staff and communities, and ensure our digital communications reflect the quality, accessibility and values of Birmingham Mind.

You will join a supportive and collaborative team where your ideas, digital skills and attention to detail will help us communicate more effectively and connect more people with mental health information and support.

Staff benefits include an attractive defined contribution pension scheme, PayCare, which offers employees affordable cover for a range of healthcare treatments, an Employee Assistance Programme that includes free counselling, a cycle to work scheme, and a comprehensive training programme.

Birmingham Mind is extremely proud to have a diverse workforce that is reflective of the communities that we work with. We strongly encourage applications from individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges as their perspectives enrich our teams. We are also committed to changing the ethnic diversity of our management team and particularly encourage applicants from minority communities to apply for this role.

Candidates must have the right to work in the UK for a minimum of 12 months. We are not a registered sponsor and therefore are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position.

Our people are key to the success of the organisation, and we are recognised as both a Mindful Employer as well as achieving Gold standard success in Investors in People. We welcome applications from people who have experienced mental health difficulties.

Closing date for applications is Sunday 1st November 2026

Interviews will take place on Monday 16th November 2026
