How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to take on a mechanical lead role supporting the detailed design of assets for the HS2 project.

    The position will involve providing technical leadership across mechanical design activities, working closely with engineering and project delivery teams to ensure the successful development and coordination of detailed design information.

    This is an initial 6-month Outside IR35 contract, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the North Acton office, with hybrid working available for the remaining days.

    The Role

    You'll be involved in:

    Leading mechanical design activities across the HS2 Assets project
    Supporting the delivery of detailed mechanical engineering designs
    Providing technical leadership and guidance throughout the design process
    Producing and reviewing mechanical design documentation
    Coordinating mechanical design requirements with wider engineering disciplines
    Reviewing technical information to ensure design quality and consistency
    Identifying and resolving mechanical design and coordination issues
    Supporting the development of practical and technically robust engineering solutions
    Liaising with project teams to maintain design process and deliverables
    Ensuring mechanical design activities align with project requirements
    Supporting multidisciplinary coordination throughout detailed design deliveryWhat They're Looking For

    Strong experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer, ideally within infrastructure or rail projects
    Previous experience taking responsibility for mechanical design activities
    Strong background in detailed mechanical design
    Ability to lead technical design tasks and coordinate engineering deliverables
    Experience producing and reviewing technical design documentation
    Good understanding of multidisciplinary engineering coordination
    Strong technical and analytical problem-solving skills
    Ability to identify and resolve design challenges
    Excellent communication and organisational skills
    Confidence working with engineering and project delivery teams
    Availability to attend the North Acton office at least three days per weekExperience working on HS2, rail infrastructure or other major infrastructure projects would be particularly beneficial.
