How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Location: Plymouth, Devon
    Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
    Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Commissioning Engineer | Industrial Automation | Special Purpose Machinery

Are you a hands-on Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, getting machinery running at its best and seeing engineering projects through to completion?

We are recruiting for an experienced Commissioning Engineer to join a well-established and innovative engineering business specialising in bespoke automation solutions and special purpose machinery.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on technically challenging projects, collaborating with Mechanical, Electrical and Software Engineers to take sophisticated automated machinery from build through commissioning, testing and final customer acceptance.

If you enjoy getting stuck in, diagnosing problems and making things work, we want to hear from you!

    The Role

Working closely with the Manufacturing Manager, Project Managers and engineering teams, you will take a leading role in ensuring automated machinery is fully commissioned, tested and ready for customer sign-off.

    Key responsibilities include:

    *

Commissioning, testing and troubleshooting complex automated machinery and production systems.

    *

Identifying and resolving mechanical, electrical, controls and automation-related issues.

    *

Working closely with Mechanical Fitters, Designers and Software Engineers to overcome technical challenges.

    *

Leading daily project meetings, setting priorities and driving commissioning activities forward.

    *

Conducting internal Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and preparing equipment for customer acceptance.

    *

Optimising machine performance, reliability and efficiency to achieve agreed OEE targets.

    *

Identifying potential commissioning risks and implementing practical engineering solutions.

    *

Supporting machinery installation, commissioning and customer training on-site, including occasional UK and overseas travel.

    *

Acting as a key technical contact for customers throughout the commissioning and handover process.

    What We're Looking For

We are keen to speak with practical, technically capable Engineers who have experience working with automated machinery, manufacturing equipment or special purpose machines.

    Ideally, you will have:

    *

Experience commissioning, testing, maintaining or fault-finding automated machinery.

    *

A solid understanding of mechanical engineering, electrical systems and industrial automation.

    *

    Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.

    *

Experience working within engineering, manufacturing or project-driven environments.

    *

The ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

    *

Good communication skills and a proactive, hands-on approach.

    *

A genuine desire to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

Experience with PLC-controlled equipment, machine integration, FAT testing or bespoke automation systems would be particularly advantageous.

Don't Currently Work as a Commissioning Engineer?

    No problem!

We would also welcome applications from experienced:

    *

    Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineers

    *

    Automation Engineers

    *

    Manufacturing / Production Engineers

    *

    Machine Build Engineers

    *

    Senior Engineering Technicians

If you've worked extensively with automated machinery, have strong diagnostic skills and are looking to take the next step in your engineering career, this could be an excellent opportunity.

    What's on Offer?

    *

The opportunity to work on cutting-edge automation and bespoke engineering projects.

    *

A varied, hands-on technical role with genuine engineering challenges.

    *

Exposure to the full machinery build, commissioning and customer acceptance process.

    *

Collaboration with experienced multidisciplinary engineering teams.

    *

Opportunities to develop your technical expertise and broaden your commissioning experience.

    *

A permanent position within an established engineering business.

    Interested?

If you're an Engineer who enjoys solving problems, improving machinery performance and seeing projects successfully delivered, we'd love to hear from you.
