How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    SEN Teaching Assistant - Primary or Secondary School - Newham

    Location: Newham, East London
    Pay: £108.68-£115 per day
    Contract Type: Full-time, long-term temporary with potential to become permanent
    Start Date: ASAP, subject to interview and compliance checks
    Commutable from: Stratford, Plaistow, East Ham, Forest Gate, Canning Town, West Ham, Barking and surrounding areas

    Long Term Futures is recruiting dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) across primary and secondary school settings in Newham. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who enjoy helping young people overcome barriers to learning and develop their confidence, independence and classroom skills.

    We are looking for candidates who can adapt their approach to different learning needs, build positive relationships with pupils and work effectively alongside teaching staff. Whether your background is in education, SEN support, youth work or a related care setting, we would welcome applications from individuals with relevant experience and a genuine commitment to supporting children and young people.

    Responsibilities

    Provide tailored 1:1 support to pupils with additional learning needs, helping them access lessons and participate in school activities.
    Deliver small-group interventions to reinforce learning, develop key skills and encourage pupil engagement.
    Support teachers with classroom activities, lesson preparation and the delivery of differentiated learning tasks.
    Adapt communication and support strategies to meet the individual needs and abilities of pupils.
    Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation and appropriate social interactions throughout the school day.
    Help pupils develop independence, confidence and practical strategies for managing classroom expectations.
    Monitor pupil engagement and progress, sharing relevant observations with teachers and SEN staff.
    Work collaboratively with teaching staff and other professionals to maintain consistent approaches to pupil support.
    Promote an inclusive learning environment where pupils feel respected, supported and encouraged to achieve.
    Follow school safeguarding procedures and contribute to maintaining a safe, positive environment for all pupils.

    Essential Candidate Requirements

    Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, or relevant transferable experience from education, care, youth work or similar settings.
    A patient, empathetic and adaptable approach to supporting pupils with different learning abilities and needs.
    Strong communication skills and the ability to build professional, supportive relationships with pupils and staff.
    Confidence providing individual, small-group and general classroom support.
    An understanding of the importance of positive behaviour management and inclusive education.
    Ability to follow guidance from teachers and SEN staff while using initiative appropriately.
    Availability to commit to a full-time, long-term position.
    An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to complete a new Enhanced DBS check.

    Previous experience supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties or social, emotional and mental health needs would be beneficial. However, applicants with relevant transferable experience who demonstrate the right skills and approach are also encouraged to apply.
