How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Long Term Futures is recruiting a dedicated PMLD Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Edgware, North West London. The role involves supporting pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), helping them engage with learning, develop communication skills and participate in daily classroom activities.

We are looking for someone who brings patience, empathy and a practical understanding of supporting individuals with complex additional needs. Whether your experience comes from a specialist school, SEN provision or a relevant care setting, this could be an excellent opportunity to apply your skills in a rewarding educational environment.

    Responsibilities

Provide tailored one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties.
Assist teachers in delivering sensory-based learning activities adapted to individual abilities and needs.
Support pupils with complex communication needs, using appropriate strategies to encourage interaction and engagement.
Help implement individual education plans and personalised learning targets.
Encourage independence, confidence and participation in classroom routines and activities.
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other support staff to maintain consistent approaches to pupil development.
Recognise and respond appropriately to pupils' emotional, sensory and communication needs.
Monitor pupil engagement and progress, sharing observations with teaching staff.
Promote a positive, inclusive learning environment where pupils feel safe, respected and supported.
Follow safeguarding procedures and contribute to the welfare of all pupils.

    Essential Candidate Requirements

Previous experience supporting children, young people or adults with PMLD, complex special educational needs or significant additional care and communication needs.
A good understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with complex learning and communication difficulties.
Confidence adapting communication and support approaches to meet individual needs.
A patient, compassionate and resilient approach to working with pupils who require consistent support.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and follow guidance from teaching staff.
Commitment to supporting pupil dignity, inclusion, independence and wellbeing.
Availability for full-time, long-term work, with an interest in a potential permanent position.
An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to complete a new Enhanced DBS check.
Previous experience working directly with pupils with PMLD in a specialist school would be particularly advantageous. Knowledge of sensory learning approaches, Makaton, the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) or other alternative and augmentative communication methods would also be beneficial, although these are not essential.

    What Long Term Futures Offers

Competitive daily pay of £115-£130, depending on experience.
A long-term opportunity with the potential to transition into a permanent school position.
Dedicated consultant support throughout the recruitment process and placement.
Guidance with registration, compliance and safeguarding requirements.
Clear communication and ongoing support as you settle into your role.
