How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Data Centres

    Up to £95,000 + Package

    Design the critical infrastructure that powers hyperscale data centres.

    We're supporting a global engineering organisation looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to play a key role in the design and development of next-generation data centre cooling infrastructure.

    This is an opportunity to work on large-scale hyperscale facilities, contributing to the design of mission-critical mechanical systems that support some of the world's most demanding digital environments.

    You'll be involved across the full design lifecycle, reviewing and developing innovative cooling solutions, assessing system resilience, influencing technical standards and helping deliver highly efficient, reliable and sustainable data centre environments.

    The Role

    You'll work as part of a specialist engineering team responsible for the development of advanced cooling solutions across hyperscale data centre projects.

    Key responsibilities include:

    * Leading the design and technical development of airside and waterside cooling systems

    * Developing cooling strategies for hyperscale data centre environments

    * Carrying out hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing and system analysis

    * Reviewing CFD modelling, noise studies and climate assessments

    * Assessing redundancy strategies and Single Points of Failure (SPOFs)

    * Supporting value engineering initiatives to enhance efficiency and performance

    * Collaborating with consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders

    * Reviewing engineering deliverables including drawings, calculations, specifications and technical reports

    * Supporting design improvements across engineering, construction and operational teams

    What We're Looking For

    We're particularly interested in engineers with experience designing cooling infrastructure within mission-critical or hyperscale environments.

    Ideally you'll have experience with:

    * Data centre mechanical design

    * Evaporative and non-evaporative cooling systems

    * Chilled water and hydronic systems

    * Hydraulic modelling and analysis

    * Critical cooling infrastructure

    * Building Services Mechanical Design

    * CFD modelling and thermal management

    Candidates from leading data centre consultancies, engineering consultancies, client-side operators or mission-critical environments are encouraged to apply.

    What's On Offer?

    * Salary up to £95,000

    * Exposure to cutting-edge hyperscale data centre projects

    * High-profile global engineering environment

    * Long-term career progression

    * Opportunity to influence future data centre design standards

    If you're interested in discussing this opportunity in confidence, apply today or contact Nathan at North20 Recruitment for further information
