Join the City of Wolverhampton Council Travel Unit
We are currently recruiting reliable, caring and professional Drivers to join the Travel Unit team. This rewarding role involves transporting children, young people and vulnerable adults safely to and from schools, day centres and other community facilities across Wolverhampton and surrounding areas.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy driving, working with people and making a positive difference within their local community.
Key Responsibilities
Safely drive passenger carrying vehicles of up to 17 seats in accordance with road traffic legislation and Council policies.
Assist service users with boarding and alighting vehicles safely.
Support passengers with mobility difficulties, including the safe operation of wheelchair lifts, restraints and specialist equipment.
Conduct daily vehicle safety checks and report any defects.
Ensure vehicles are clean, roadworthy and appropriately equipped before each journey.
Complete route documentation and maintain accurate records.
Safely transport service users' belongings, medicines and other essential items where required.
Build positive relationships with passengers, carers, schools and service providers.
Respond appropriately to incidents and complete relevant reporting documentation.
Undertake risk assessments and ensure passenger welfare is maintained at all times.
About the Role
You will be transporting service users of all ages, including those with physical disabilities, learning difficulties, additional needs and mobility impairments.

Day Care Facilities
Swimming Facilities
Community Venues
Other Service ProvidersOn occasion, drivers may be required to undertake journeys without a Passenger Assistant or support in the Passenger Assistant role where required.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
ā A full UK driving licence.
ā D1 entitlement (desirable).
ā Driver CPC qualification (desirable but not essential).
ā Experience working with members of the public or vulnerable individuals.
ā Good communication and customer service skills.
ā A caring, patient and professional approach.
ā The ability to work independently and follow designated routes and schedules.
ā A commitment to passenger safety and welfare.
