How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Transport Planner

    Location: Macclesfield

    Salary: £32,000

    Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm

    The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced and highly organised Transport Planner to join a successful and well-established company in Macclesfield.

This is an important role within the transport operation, responsible for planning and coordinating a team of 17 drivers completing an average of 50–60 deliveries every day across the UK.

You will play a key role in ensuring vehicles, drivers and routes are planned efficiently, whilst maintaining excellent customer service, transport compliance and operational performance.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys a busy, varied role and wants the opportunity to make the position their own, introduce ideas and put their own stamp on the transport operation.

    What You'll Be Doing

Plan and coordinate daily UK-wide delivery routes for a team of 17 drivers.

Allocate vehicles, drivers and deliveries to ensure the most efficient use of resources.

Plan approximately 50–60 deliveries per day, balancing customer requirements, driver availability and vehicle capacity.

Optimise routes and minimise unnecessary mileage and transport costs.

Monitor delivery schedules and react quickly to changes throughout the day.

Manage driver availability, holidays, absences and agency requirements.

Communicate clearly with drivers regarding routes, schedules and operational changes.

Work closely with warehouse, production, customer service and other internal departments.

Monitor vehicle availability and coordinate with fleet/maintenance teams.

Ensure planning activities meet Drivers' Hours, Working Time, tachograph and Operator Licence requirements.

Resolve day-to-day transport issues quickly and effectively.

Monitor transport performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.

Maintain accurate records and produce relevant transport reports and KPIs.

    The Challenge

This is a varied and fast-paced role where no two days are the same.

The successful candidate will need to be comfortable juggling multiple priorities, communicating with different departments and making decisions quickly when plans change.

You may have a route that looks perfect at 8am, only for a vehicle issue, driver absence or customer requirement to change the plan. We therefore need someone who can think on their feet, remain calm under pressure and find solutions rather than problems.

    About You

We are looking for someone with previous experience in transport planning, logistics, distribution or fleet operations who enjoys working in a busy operational environment.

    You'll ideally have:

Experience in Transport Planning, Transport Coordination or a similar role.

    Strong route-planning and scheduling experience.

Excellent geographical knowledge of the UK.

Good understanding of transport operations and delivery planning.

    Strong systems and IT skills.

Experience using transport planning or fleet management systems.

    Good Excel and reporting capability.

    Excellent communication and organisational skills.

The ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

    Strong attention to detail.

    A positive, can-do attitude.

A willingness to go the extra mile to get the job done.

The resilience to adapt when priorities and plans change.

    A proactive approach to problem-solving.

    CPC Development Opportunity

You do not need to hold a Transport Manager CPC to apply.

For the right candidate, the company is prepared to support and put you through the CPC qualification process, providing an excellent opportunity to develop your transport career and progress your responsibilities within the business.

A full UK driving licence would be advantageous.

    Systems & Technology

The successful candidate will be comfortable working with systems and technology and will ideally have experience using transport planning or fleet software.

Experience with Samsara, MaxOptra or similar systems would be advantageous, although training can be provided for the right person.

    What's on Offer?

This is a genuinely exciting opportunity to join a great company that values its people and rewards hard work.

    The benefits include:

    £32,000 salary

    Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm

    Company pension

    Healthcare

23 days' annual leave plus bank holidays

Christmas shutdown – the company closes over Christmas, saving you 3 days of annual leave

    Employee of the Month recognition

    Employee of the Quarter recognition

Full support towards Transport Manager CPC qualification

The opportunity to make improvements and put your own stamp on the role

A supportive and established working environment

If you're an experienced Transport Planner looking for your next challenge and want the opportunity to develop your career, take ownership and make a real difference, we'd love to hear from you.
