The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Control Room Manager to join a rapidly growing renewable energy business operating a portfolio of large-scale energy infrastructure across the UK.
The business operates a 24/7 control room responsible for monitoring asset performance, managing alarms and incidents, and producing critical availability and performance reporting for clients.
This is a newly created position where you will take overall ownership of the control room function, including day-to-day operations, team leadership, alarm management, reporting, performance analysis and continuous improvement.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in control room management, network operations, energy operations or 24/7 monitoring who is looking to take ownership of a growing function within the renewable energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
* Take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Wakefield control room, including rotas, coverage, procedures and team competence.
* Lead and manage the Control Room Monitoring and Performance & Monitoring teams.
* Set and maintain high standards for alarm handling, triage, prioritisation and escalation.
* Ensure incidents and control room actions are appropriately escalated and closed within agreed timescales.
* Maintain high-quality shift handovers and operational processes.
* Oversee daily, weekly and monthly availability and performance reporting across sites and clients.
* Investigate availability losses and underperformance, working closely with engineering and field service teams.
* Monitor CCTV and security alarms, coordinating escalation to relevant authorities, on-call teams and clients where required.
* Provide control room input into health & safety, control of work and regulatory notifications.
* Present performance information and actions during client service review meetings.
* Identify opportunities to improve control room processes, automation, reporting and operational readiness.
* Support the integration of new sites and assets into the control room portfolio.
About You
We're looking for an experienced operational leader who can take ownership of a busy control room environment and drive high standards across the team.
You will ideally have:
* Previous experience managing a control room, Network Operations Centre (NOC) or equivalent 24/7 monitoring function.
* Strong people management experience, including rotas, performance management and team development.
* Working knowledge of the GB electricity system and generation, storage or other energy assets.
* Practical experience with SCADA and remote monitoring systems, including alarm management.
* Strong analytical and data-handling skills, with the ability to challenge and validate performance figures.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience reporting to clients and senior management.
* A track record of improving processes, response times and operational standards.
* Full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK.
Desirable Experience
Experience in one or more of the following would be highly advantageous:
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
Flexible generation or gas generation
Renewable energy operations
Optimisation and route-to-market platforms
Balancing Mechanism and ancillary services
NESO, DNO or supplier-facing reporting
Availability and metering data
HV/LV safety rules, permits to work and isolation procedures
Power BI or automated/scripted reporting
