How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Carrington West are currently working with a well-established and highly regarded planning consultancy who are looking to appoint a Town Planner to join their growing team in York.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Town Planner with experience in the UK planning system to develop their career within a consultancy environment, working on a diverse range of interesting and commercially focused projects.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative team where you will have the opportunity to take ownership of projects, work closely with clients and develop your planning expertise alongside experienced professionals.
    The Role
As a Town Planner, you will be involved in a varied portfolio of commercial planning projects, providing planning advice and supporting projects from inception through to completion.
    Your responsibilities will include:
    · Managing a range of commercial planning projects.
    · Providing high-quality planning advice to clients.
    · Preparing and submitting planning applications.
    · Liaising with local planning authorities, clients, consultants and other stakeholders.
    · Undertaking planning research and preparing planning appraisals.
    · Supporting senior members of the team on larger and more complex projects.
    · Contributing to business development and maintaining strong client relationships.
    · Representing clients at meetings and discussions with planning authorities and stakeholders.
    About You
We are looking for a Town Planner with a strong understanding of the UK planning system and relevant experience within a consultancy, local authority or similar environment.
    Ideally, you will have:
    · A degree or Master's qualification accredited by the RTPI.
    · Relevant experience within a planning environment.
    · Experience or an interest in commercial planning projects.
    · A good understanding of the UK planning system and planning policy.
    · Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    · Strong organisational and project management abilities.
    · The confidence to work independently while also contributing effectively to a wider team.
    · A proactive approach to career development and professional growth.
MRTPI / Chartered status is not essential for this position, making this an excellent opportunity for candidates who are working towards chartership or looking to begin their APC.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a consultancy with an established presence in the market and a strong pipeline of commercial work.
You will benefit from a flexible hybrid working arrangement alongside the opportunity to work on varied and commercially focused projects, with excellent opportunities for professional development and career progression.
If you're a Town Planner with an RTPI-accredited degree or Master's looking for your next opportunity in York, we'd be keen to hear from you. Apply today with your updated CV and reach out to (url removed) with any questions
