How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Astute's Power Team is partnering with a professional engineering practice specialising in solar and battery energy storage system design, to recruit a Senior Engineer for its East Northamptonshire office.

The Senior Engineer role comes with an expected salary of £60,000-£65,000 per annum, negotiable depending on experience.

If you're a Senior Engineer and are looking to work for an organisation that delivers high-quality design and technical consultancy services across commercial solar PV and battery energy storage projects, then submit your CV to apply today.

Responsibilities and duties of the Senior Engineer role
As a Senior Engineer, you will:

Lead and support solar PV and battery energy storage projects from concept through construction and operation.
Produce electrical and power-system designs, detailed drawings, schedules, specifications and engineering calculations.
Undertake yield simulations, performance modelling, design optimisation, grid connection studies and feasibility assessments.
Attend office and site meetings and survey prospective sites, construction works and operational installations.
Provide technical support, investigate engineering issues and prepare professional reports and critical studies.
Conduct design and peer reviews, design risk analysis and other CDM or safety-in-design activities.
Work directly with clients, contribute to proposals and tenders, and supervise junior engineering staff where required.

    Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following qualifications and experience:

Degree-level or higher qualification in a relevant STEM discipline.
At least five years' electrical-system design experience to UK standards on projects delivered into construction.
Demonstrable experience of industrial electrical distribution systems, including PV systems above 1MW, power systems at 11kV or above, or industrial M&E projects.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Autodesk AutoCAD; knowledge of PVSyst and Trimble (Amtech) ProDesign would be advantageous.
A sound theoretical background with the ability to complete calculations, solve novel engineering problems autonomously and critically review technical work.
Fluent written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate designs clearly through reports, drawings and presentations.
Membership of, or eligibility for, an accredited engineering institution, a full driving licence and an existing right to work in the UK.

    Personal skills

The Senior Engineer role would suit someone who has:

A high standard of work, strong attention to detail and a practical approach to complex engineering challenges
The confidence to lead projects, work directly with clients and review or challenge designs produced by others
The ability to learn quickly, research unfamiliar topics and justify conclusions clearly
Commercial awareness, a collaborative style and the ability to thrive in a small professional team

Salary and benefits of the Senior Engineer role

Expected salary of £60,000-£65,000 per annum, negotiable depending on experience
Permanent, full-time position working 40 hours per week
Varied work across commercial rooftop, solar park and battery energy storage projects in the UK and overseas
Professional development support, including encouragement towards MIET and Chartered Engineer accreditation
Partial remote working may be considered for the right candidate
Start as soon as possible for the right candidate
