How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Software Engineering Manager

    Manchester | Permanent | Up to £110,000 + Bonus

    The Opportunity

A growing technology business is looking for an experienced Software Engineering Manager to join its Manchester-based technology team.

This is a key leadership position, offering the opportunity to influence how engineering teams operate, develop technical talent and contribute to the continued evolution of a successful digital product environment.

You’ll be joining an established engineering function with ambitious plans for growth, working alongside product and technology colleagues to deliver high-quality software and continuously improve the way teams build and operate technology.

    The Role

As Software Engineering Manager, you will:

Lead and develop a team of software engineers, providing coaching, mentoring and technical leadership.
Help create a high-performing engineering culture focused on quality, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Work closely with Product and other technology stakeholders to turn business requirements into effective technical solutions.
Contribute to engineering strategy, technical decision-making and long-term development plans.
Support recruitment and the continued growth of the engineering team.
Champion effective software development practices and help improve engineering standards.
Ensure teams have the processes and support required to deliver reliable, maintainable software.
Help identify opportunities to improve development efficiency and engineering productivity.
Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
Encourage a pragmatic approach to problem-solving, learning from challenges and continuously improving the technology estate.
    What I'm Looking For

I'm interested in speaking with Engineering Managers who have a strong technical background and a proven ability to lead and develop software engineering teams.

    You should have:

Several years' experience managing software engineering teams.
A substantial background in software development before moving into engineering leadership.
Experience leading teams through growth and organisational change.
Strong technical understanding of modern software engineering principles.
Experience working on complex, customer-facing digital products.
The ability to understand technical challenges and make sound engineering decisions.
A strong track record of coaching, mentoring and developing engineers.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
A commercially aware approach to engineering, balancing technical quality with delivery and business objectives.
Experience working within Agile development environments.
    The Person

We're looking for someone who is technically credible, commercially minded and genuinely enjoys developing people.

You should be comfortable operating at both strategic and technical levels, able to challenge ideas constructively while empowering engineers to take ownership.

This would suit an Engineering Manager who is looking for a role where they can have a meaningful influence on people, technology and delivery, rather than simply managing day-to-day engineering activity.

    What's On Offer?

    Up to £110,000 basic salary
    Bonus
    Manchester-based opportunity
    Permanent position
Significant opportunity to influence engineering direction
Leadership role within a growing technology environment
Opportunity to build and develop a high-performing engineering team
Confidential Search: Further information about the organisation, product and technology environment will be provided during the recruitment process
