How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Location: Birmingham (3 days per week on-site)
    Contract: Initial 3-6-Month Contract

    Hays are delighted to be working in partnership with a local authority to recruit an experienced Power BI Analyst on an initial 3-6-month contract.

    This role sits within the Performance Team in Street Scene, City Operations, a key function responsible for performance management, KPI monitoring, dashboard development, service efficiency projects, compliance reporting, and the delivery of management information to support operational decision-making.

    The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in enhancing the organisation's reporting capability, automating manual processes, and developing robust data solutions that provide valuable operational insights across City Operations services.

    Key Responsibilities

    Develop, administer and maintain Power BI reporting solutions.
    Design and build high-quality dashboards, reports and management information products to support operational and strategic decision-making.
    Create and maintain performance dashboards and KPI reporting suites.
    Extract, transform and manage data from multiple systems and datasets.
    Develop and maintain structured data repositories to support reporting and governance requirements.
    Build automated reporting solutions that transform system outputs and data exports into accessible, user-friendly insights.
    Develop Power Automate workflows to streamline business processes and reduce manual effort.
    Support the ongoing improvement of data quality, governance, security and version control practices.
    Administer and develop SharePoint solutions, using SharePoint as a central repository for operational information and reporting assets.
    Work closely with stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translate business needs into effective data solutions.
    Essential ExperienceTo be considered, you will have demonstrable experience in:

    Power BI development, administration and performance optimisation.
    Building complex reports, dashboards and management information solutions.
    Data extraction, transformation and management across multiple data sources.
    Power Automate workflow development.
    KPI reporting, performance management and operational analytics.
    SharePoint administration and development.
    Data governance, quality management and version control.
    Delivering reporting and automation projects within complex operational environments.
