How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Cover Supervisor Jobs - Wirral Secondary Schools

Tradewind Recruitment is recruiting Cover Supervisors for current and upcoming opportunities across secondary schools throughout the Wirral.

We are keen to hear from experienced Cover Supervisors and confident individuals with experience working with secondary-aged young people who are interested in working within local schools.

Our partner schools regularly require Cover Supervisors for daily supply, short-term cover and longer-term positions, making these opportunities suitable for candidates looking for flexibility as well as those wanting consistent work in one school.

If you have experience managing groups of young people and can confidently step into a secondary classroom, this could be an excellent opportunity.

What Does a Cover Supervisor Do?

As a Cover Supervisor, you will take responsibility for classes when the usual teacher is absent.

Work will normally have already been prepared by the class teacher or department. Your role is to ensure pupils remain focused, complete the work provided and maintain a positive learning environment.

    Typical responsibilities include:

Supervising classes across Key Stages 3 and 4
Delivering pre-prepared work in the absence of the classroom teacher
    Managing classroom behaviour effectively
Ensuring pupils remain engaged and on task
Providing basic support and guidance with the work provided
Following school behaviour and safeguarding policies
Reporting back to teaching staff on pupil engagement and behaviour
Building positive and professional relationships with pupils and colleagues
Providing cover across different curriculum subjects where requiredYou do not need to be a qualified teacher to work as a Cover Supervisor.

    Who Are We Looking For?

Previous school experience is highly desirable, and we'd particularly like to hear from candidates who have already worked as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Unqualified Teacher.

However, relevant experience working with young people outside of a school can also provide an excellent foundation for Cover Supervisor work.

We'd be interested in candidates with backgrounds including:

    Sports coaching
    Youth work
    Mentoring
    Tutoring
    Children's activity programmes
Teaching Assistant or learning support work
    Further education
Graduate roles involving children or young people
Other positions involving responsibility for groups of young peopleThe key is being able to demonstrate genuine experience working with children or young people and the confidence to manage a secondary classroom.

What Makes a Strong Cover Supervisor?

Successful Cover Supervisors tend to be confident, resilient and adaptable.

You'll need to be comfortable walking into different classrooms, communicating clear expectations and dealing appropriately with challenging behaviour when it arises.

We're looking for candidates who can:

    Build rapport with secondary-aged pupils
    Establish clear boundaries
    Remain calm and professional
    Communicate confidently with groups
    Follow instructions and school policies
    Manage behaviour effectively
Adapt quickly to different subjects and year groups
Work independently while contributing to the wider school teamAn Excellent Route into Teaching

Cover Supervisor work can also be particularly valuable for graduates considering teacher training.

Rather than observing from the side of a classroom, you'll gain practical experience of managing classes, working with different year groups and understanding how secondary schools operate.

It can be an excellent way to establish whether teaching is the right career for you while building meaningful school-based experience.

    Flexible and Long-Term Opportunities

Tradewind Recruitment works with secondary schools across the Wirral, and the type of work available can vary depending on school requirements.

    Opportunities may include:

    Daily supply
